We just got my 13 mo. old a ball pit, you know, the inflatable ones, and you can buy extra balls for it? He loves it! He likes to hide in little places, so its perfect, and he like to throw the balls out, then get out, and throw them back in. He also loves any books. We give him the cardboard and soft books. He likes to turn pages, any time we go to a restaurant, he likes to look through the drink books! They also have those new digital camera that are indestructible. In my experience, anything that sings or plays music, and anything that has a favorite character on it is always a hit! But remember, it doesn't matter what you get them, they'll always want the box it came in more! lol!

For the 9 month old, I would say just about anything labelled as for ages 1yo (say a toy labeled 12-36 months) in the infant toy area.
For the 2 1/2yrs old boy, if he likes trains at all, the GeoTrax was a huge hit with our son from the ages of 1-1/2 till age 5.
The only down side is that a starter set is around $50. But if it's a toy you know Santa might be bringing him for Christmas, there are all sorts of assessory parts to add to it for very reasonable prices.

Richard Scarrys Biggest Book Ever, and those cardboard blocks that fold, they're red, yellow, and blue, look like bricks. Are bigger, and fun to crash. Our 2/12 year old boy also likes play-doh sets.
