Himjoy>Nothing's wrong. But perfectionists remain unhappy and tense all the time ! If you want to be a better Christian , that's for you to decide. It has nothing to do with being perfect. It's OK as long as your passion doesn't hurt anyone. I would prefer being a better human being than think of my religion.
Himjoy. I am very happy with being who I am, And I have never been happier.

I think of the striving to achieve perfection as a great ideal and long-term goal. No human being can really actually be perfect in the ultimate sense, but striving to be ever better at living life, helping others, learning wisdom, our skills and/or talents, is what the life of human beings is all about. There is positively nothing wrong with trying, for that is what normal human beings do naturally as they grow through life. Everyone has things they need improvement on. Sometimes the perfectionist attitude can be too extreme, as there are always those things which reach one end of the spectrum or the other, with normalcy and temperance, all things should be done.
Trying to be a better Christian is part and parcel of the inner self striving to achieve the ideals of Jesus... to become perfect in our realm of existence even as God is perfect in his realm of existence.
From birth, human beings work at perfecting everything they do from thought, word and deed.
It would be really wrong for a person to just quit trying to be better today than they were yesterday, or last week, or last month or last year...because that would mean stagnation or worse, going backwards.
Life is ever progressing, always on the move, always busy - moving forward in time.
So, nothing is wrong with trying to achieve perfection and/or trying to be a better Christian - instead the exact opposite is true -everything is right with it. And because this is so, that's one reason that our Eternal, Infinite and Loving Father sees us as already perfected, because that's the way we were made to be... if we are living a life trying to always be better and better, then we are surely doing the right most perfect thing we imperfect human beings can do even if we aren't perfect at trying! :)

There is nothing wrong with trying to be perfect. But you will never achieve it.
Roman 4:23 For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God
Romans 4:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay; but by the law of faith.

Trying to achieve perfection is "doomed to fail." It is not in our nature. The more serious you are , the more frustrated you will become.
Yielding to God and coming under His loving and tender mercies, that is the good soil for the working of a tender heart towards God. That is "doomed to succeed."
In this perspective, nothing is wrong with trying to be a better Christian.

Strive for perfection, ALWAYS. Yeshua said, in Matthew 5.48 to be perfect. He didn't say be a "better christian", He said "BE PERFECT". Look at John the baptist's parents in Luke. Look at Job.
To say we are chasing an impossible dream is a cop-out. It makes christians say stupid things, such as "we can't be perfect, so why even try?" Sounds like laziness to me!

Perfection is impossible to achieve but the aim of achieving it is what keeps the human race evolving and improving.
As for better Christian it is a matter of opinion, i know many Christians that don't go to Church and will say be a good person, pray more or donate money to charities whereas other Christians will prefer that you go to Church more or do more to help your Church.

nothing is wrong with trying to be a better christian,we should all strive to be better. if we don't ,that means we are luke warm self satisfied and think we are good enough. no one is so good that they don't need to try to be better.
