We don't have that problem with the president, or with our own parents, or with anyone else. We know they exist because we see them and hear them.

But God exists NOW. My great great great grandmother died a long time ago. There's a big difference, don't you think?

I don't agree with that statement. As a child, I ALWAYS knew that God existed. I have always believed in a Higher Power, Supreme Being, whatever you want to call Him, I just didn't know who He was until I was 19. My parents didn't necessarily believe in God or introduce me to the concept. Everyone goes through a time in their lives when they wonder why we are here, where we came from, etc. Isn't it a little odd to you that you would have no way of knowing about evolution if others didn't tell you? Same goes for all of the knowledge that you have. Except for breathing and sleeping, you were taught everything that you now know from someone else.

This is the same as saying we would never learn if others had not put us to it; that people who never had any measure of rights would not long for it.
Don't think that people believe in God in the first place because that is what they have been taught or influenced to think; not everyone does. God is not a discovery that gets passed on; how can you explain away people who have felt in their hearts the sudden conviction, the presence, of God?
And if God was an idea that merely spread and took root in all cultures, how was God conceived of in the first place? The first person to have realized God's existence surely had no one to tell him. And how else can you explain that all cultures, even the most primitive and cut off from the rest of the world, have had some semblance of god/gods at all points of time? Those wandering tribes ten thousand years ago, the Aztecs, the Egyptians, they built their own gods separately, and this, even though those gods were intangible. Really, is physical manifestation the only proof worth having to establish existence? What about those thoughts you never committed to paper then? Are they nothing?
Though we can say that God is a mere creation meant to fill in the void and satisfy man's need, we can say the exact opposite: that the idea of God recurs always, in all of humanity, because He really does exist and we can't help but establish it.
I am not saying that either is true, for sometimes I have argued with the points of one and sometimes of the other, and I am impressed by the originality of the question: but I can't help but revoke the ideas of the bloke (Callum-a), for seriously, mister, I have seen enough intellectuals who have settled for only a part of the argument and decided that they are already serious proponents of that camp.
And I absolutely hate dismissive one-liners that pompously feel that they contain all the knowledge in the world and that no one else has a say that can contradict or overpower it.

Abraham found out about G-D's existence on his own. It takes logic and intelligence to make such a discovery.
He saw the world and realized there must be a creator to all of that. He figured it was the sun but he then realized the sun could be covered by clouds. He concluded it was probably the clouds but he then saw they were pushed away by the rain. etc. Basically if you stop and wonder for a little bit you realized that G-d must exist. You can't say that everything's coinsidences, it's too many coincidences!!
In addition, let's say it's a summer day. You're inside but through the window you see rays of light. You assume there's sun out there. Do you actually SEE the sun? No cus you're inside. But you KNOW the sun is out. Same is with G-D, you can't see Him but you see his world all around.
I actually met a few people who were brought up atheists and explained to me that their all life they had this feeling there was a g-d until they had a chance to speak with religious people.
I probably sound crazy to you because usually all the religion questions on yahoo are really anti any religions but atheism...too bad!

Man from his start knew there was a God , and no one told him . Start with Adam and Eve they saw God . Or try this one how come all peoples all over the world have some kind of idols to an unknown god. Even before they were told as you say .Native Africans Americans and South Americans all had Idols Greeks Egyptians etc all had them > The ans is because all men where implanted with a seed of faith , and its up to us as how we use it

Nope doesn't bother me in the least.
At a certain age it natural to start asking questions and seeking out spirituality. I was in Catholic church when I was younger, but really I was raised more agnostic then anything. I sought out every path I have taken past the age of 6. Obvioulsy I had to "learn" about it somewhere but there were many years I had my own theories that I hadn't read anywhere. Some people want to find spirtuality and religion, other don't. Either way is fine
I dunno...it just doesn't bother me. lol

That is not really True.
The Holy Spirit has been Drawing People to GOD Almighty for Years and Years and Years.
For Non-Believers---have you ever been driving down a Road and Watched a SunSet, and there was "Just SomeThing About It", you Know, Almost "Spiritual"?
Yep, without a Recreated Spiritman, The Holy Spirit can Only Work Though your "SOUL" to Draw you to GOD Almighty.
The Soul of a Man or Woman, is Responsible for Putting "Feelings" in your Body so that You, a Spirit living in that Body, can "FEEL" Them!!!
Hope this Helps!
Say Yes to Jesus and get your Spirit Recreated (Saved, Born-Again) and then You can Feel GOD Almighty in YOU--a Spirit, not just your Soul and Body.

I disagree. I know that God exists because I've seen Him and I've heard Him. Millions of people have had similar experiences.

Most cultures have a creation story, and some supreme being that is said to be the creator of all things. The problem comes in when people who believe encounter those of us who think it's just that--a story. It's ok, Believers, I know your thumbs down are given with love.

Odd , Not really since In order to find " god " one must believe in him or it . So If you don't believe you will never find him . I personally don't believe in " god " or follow any particular religion . However I have never ruled out completely that their might be one ...
