You have to consume a different type of food at every meal:

Breakfast:
Petunia's- kind of classic and New Orleans food
or
Court of Two Sister's(excellent brunch on Sunday)
Or get some beignets and coffee from Cafe' Du Monde
Lunch:
Voodoo BBQ(make sure you try the Gri Gri Greens and Corn Pudding!
or
La Madeleine's(make sure to get a dessert)

Dinner:
Try any of the French Quarter restaurants(Except the chain restaurants), or
Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro or the Original Copeland's Restaurant(the spinach and artichoke dip is great, with fried bow tie pasta.) And the cheesecakes are awesome- I suggest the Dulce Le Leche.
Sweet, Fire and Ice
Also, the New Orleans Houston's restaurant is so much better than the other chains.
Note:
Try seafood at all cost. There is none like Gulf seafood!

Also, if your splurging, Try

The House of Blues
Belladonnas
There is also a great Restaurant in the Doubltree hotel( I forget the name)

My favorite, by FAR, is the Pelican Club. It is in the French Quarter, but a little less known than the really famous places whose service is not as polished as Pelican Club, whose prices are higher, and whose food is just not as good and creative.
The portions are huge, so no need for appetizers, especially when their hot home-made bread is irresistible. Try to save room to share a desert, too; they are wonderful.
The style is, naturally, cajun, with lots of fish dishes (my favorites). Sometimes I even get just a couple of appetizers. The gumbo is wonderful, the salads, especially and "specials", are fantastic.

Price is highly variable - the drinks are pricey. Here's a typical meal for me and a colleague: share an appetizer ($8 to $12), get one main course each ($20 to $30 each), share a desert ($8-ish).

Depends what you're looking for- i love Port O Call- its on Esplanade. Its a burger place but they're SO good and you MUST get the Monsoon (its an alcoholic beverage.)
If you're going for seafood- you can get a shrimp po boy anywhere.... just kinda look around to see what fits into your budget and whatnot.
Other people also gave some good suggestions :)

Drago's viist there website. Great food and try the char-grilled oysters. They are out of site. Even if you don't like oysters you have to try them just to dip the french bread.
