Hey everyone, my cat has been sleeping on our balcony for years and has never tried to go off or anything(6th Floor) she just looks out and sleeps on the beds and stuff we set out for her. Anyway I'm going to be going on a trip tomorrow for 5 days to vegas. I'm wondering if I should leave the screen door open since she likes to go outside and sleep at night. I have no wiring or anything because I don't think it's permitted, but she hasn't seemed to need it at all anyway.

I would take a picture but I can't so at 14 seconds in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yradgcSzF8w that's what the railings and how the bars are like, we don't have any tables or anything out there so there's nothing for her to stand on.

Our neighbor will be checking on her several times a day while we're gone for 5 days, should I leave the screen door open so she can sleep outside?

(Any answers fast would be appreciated since I leave tomorrow!) Thanks everyone!

I wouldn't leave it open... while she has proven trustworthy, it is just too dangerous, especially when her life is being so upset by you leaving for 5 days. She may try to look for you and get hurt. I know when I leave for even a coulple days my cats are all out of sorts.

Besides, who knows what may come in from the outside at night or even day for that matter.

Yikes, I wouldn't do it. I would be paranoid the whole trip wondering if she fell. Also, what if a severe storm blows in while you're gone, could make for one wet cat and wet carpeting. She'll be just fine with the door closed and sleeping inside. It's nice you have a neighbor checking on her, it's one of the advantages of owning cats, you can go away for several days and not worry too much.

An open door invites thieves too--keep the cat inside. If people see things are open, they'll try to get up there and the last thing you want when you come home is to find your place was robbed.

the cat's fine. That cat is too freaking smart to fall of of that balcony. I'm 60 i have lived with cat's all of my life. The cat will never fall off of that balcony. The only way that cat's going off of that balcony, is if the cat's thrown off. I'd make sure my neighbor is nice.

It sounds like a good plan to me. If your neighbour is checking on your cat also. I think she won't get of the balcony if she never tried that.

I would just leave the cat inside. it's better to be safe than have a dead kitty.
