It's sad when our children are more spiritually secure and mature than their adults. Most Catholics I know have no idea regarding their faith, leave after communion, wear their "faith" like a cultural badge, and basically don't know enough to have a good Christian conversation.

Careful Pete, you are attributing the Gospel to false gospels. That is dangerous...

Everydaycattie: Do you mean "catechesis" or "commisar"?

No.

The average Catholic probably has as much faith in God as the average Protestant.

Well educated Protestants like to tell horror stories about meeting under educated Catholics but seem to forget their encounters with well educated Catholics.

But the real issue is not the amount of education but the amount of faith. In the heresy of Gnosticism, salvation comes from knowledge (gnosis means knowledge) not faith.

A saintly person, Catholic or Protestant, can easily have much faith but little education.

With love in Christ.

Not always. My 8-yr-old son, whom we're raising Catholic, knows far more Scripture and theology than his 10- and 12-year-old cousins who are being raised in an evangelical protestant tradition.

Parents are responsible for teaching their children about faith. Some do a good job, some don't.

Many Catholics in their 30s-50s don't know much about their faith because their parents didn't take the time to instruct them properly. It was sort of "out of fashion" to do so.

Of course since the protestant teaches them they can make up any interpretation they want sort of like Joseph Smith and Mohamed

*sigh* No, it is not true.

Protestants, generally speaking, have Bible memory and evangelical talking points drilled into them, so they can spend the whole day quoting the Bible and talking circles around their opponents. This does not necessarily equate to knowing more about God.

Everydaycatholic, you should be ashamed of yourself. =(

Edit: If your additional question was meant to be addressed to me, I meant everydaycatholic. ;-)

What rubbish. SO Protestant children are more gullible. Is that something to be proud of. Most protestants I know don't give a damn about their religion and visit the pub more regularly than a church.

Pretty much.

Catholics believe a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1).
