For those who know, I'm investigating the benefits in each branch of the Military. Yesterday, I participated in an online chat with an Air Force recruiter and was seriously disappointed with his lack of enthusiasm for his branch, and drive to "sell" it to me.
I'm a College Grad with interest in intelligence, strategy, military history or PERHAPS pilot/nav. positions. My father is retired Army (Col.) and helping me a bit, but would appreciated any informed suggestions.
Thanks!

i am a college graduate working on my Masters in Public Administration. I've been in reserve components for the ARMY since I was 18. I may be a bit bias because of that but if you are looking for a career in the military that you can develop after 20 years into a civilian job, The ARMY is the way to go right now. Because of shortages in officers and enlistment, you may have an easier job finding a the career you are looking in. Military intelligence and (PSYOP) Psychological Operations are some of the hottest places to join in the military.

Well i hope you do know,

Getting into OCS or OTS is not as simple as enlisting.

The Air Force is only allowing 420 OTS candiates into the AF in 2008.

Generally about 60% of OCS or OTS applications are approved.

And thats after the pre approval process eliminates those who have no chance to be approved.

.
You first need to determine, exactly what you want to do in the military.

What you are qualified to do, based on your Degree and GPA.

It will be hard to get a pilot/nav position, without a technicial degree.

Then look and see which branch of the military, offers that opportunity.

Then look at the manning levels of each branch in what career fields you decided on to see if it looks like they are over manned or under manned.

Not much reason to try for an over manned career field.

If you go army, your father can help you a lot more than if you went on another branch. I did the same thing you did.. went to an AF recruiter, felt discouraged, but then I joined the Army shortly after.

Being that I'm a former Marine and we are fiercely loyal, that is of course my recommendation. I will be honest with you though, all that we have to offer is pride. The Air Force, Army, and Navy all have better duty stations. Their training will not be a fraction as difficult, not as much will be expected of you, and you will have much better living conditions. For me pride was enough. There is nothing in the world like being able to say that you are a U.S. Marine.
