Because it doesn't fit their agenda to give any credit to the bible. It's easier to make false accusations that the bible is wrong by taking it out of context. Several examples here such as the flat Earth, sun revolving around the earth, bats being birds are all examples of that, My weather man still announces when the "sunrise" will be, but that doesn't mean he believes the sun actually rises. We still refer to "the west" and the Middle East" though we know the earth is not flat. And the Linnean classification category of mammals didn't even exist back then. Science created these labels then decry the bible as wrong because it calls whales fish and puts bats in the same sentence as birds. Atheists work hard to disprove the bible because if it is true, they need Jesus as Savior and they don't want Jesus. They don't want to believe in God because logically, God would not accept them and we know where people go when they reject God.
Still, it's not too late. Repent, believe the bible and call on God today.
Oh, and pi = 3(insert decimal point here and numbers not repeating into infinity) rounds up to exactly 3!

that is correct. I respectfully disagree with those who say science does not support the Bible.
First of all, the scriptures (Isaiah 40:22) refer to the one dwelling above the CIRCLE of the earth. Now before y'all slam me and say a circle can be flat... Yes, that is true. But the fact is that the word circle, in the original translation can be rendered SPHERE. Right off the top of my head I don't remember the exact word but I can find out and get back to you. Now if that doesn't work for you there is Job who talked of God as the one who is "hanging the earth upon nothing." Explain how a man living at a time when the common belief was that the earth was being supported by either a giant (Atlas) or a couple of turtles or an elephant) know this. and at a time thousands of years before space exploration showed that to be true ... would know this.
Then examine the hygienic laws incorporated into the Mosaic Law. Their practices when it came to disposal of human waste and the treatment of dead bodies were far superior to those of the nations around them and as a result kept them safer.
As my mother used to say, "no hay peor siego qu'el que no qiere ver." (a little translation project for y'all)

It is not just the Christians, the Hindus and Muslims too believe that science supports their religions. Actually there is no scientific evidence whatsoever to support the creation story in the bible or the story of Jesus resurrection. The Hindus too believe that their stupid beliefs have scientific support but after all a belief is just a belief and not a fact. To know god one must set aside all one's beliefs and not subscribe to any religious beliefs. You exist that is the only reality, so find out who you are by looking within attentively.

I think it is best said that science and the Bible cannot contradict.
Sometimes the Bible is misunderstood as being like a historical document or something that can be understood as being literal in all of it's books. But it is a collections of various writings that were made for various audiences, purposes and forms. If you take the story of Creation as literally happening in 6 days, I think that is not the intention. 6 days is just a division not meant to be an exact figure. Yet if someone wants to believe in those 6 days, I would not argue. You have a right to believe it. But also someone who just can't see it that way, also has a right to think of it differently. We all must listen to our conscience as we must listen for God speaking to us from within especially in prayer and with proper education.

Basically on the one hand you have the bible, a thousand or so year old document which is a collection of the writings of nomadic and early agriculturally based peoples about their own understanding of the world at the time (science had not even been invented yet) and on the other hand you have a coherent, logical, well reasoned set of data about how the universe works written mostly by 19th and 20th century learned men and women. Now where is the similarity or connection?

Science is about discovering the truth.
Most of those discoveries cannot be found in the bible.
The most important is evolution.
Look at the resistance that is on public display from the bible belt folks.
You can walk on the moon but many of those closed minded people cannot believe it. It would be such an easy leap of faith. But you see they have an emotional investment. Can they go to heaven when they die if an astronaut finds the way there in a spaceship?

Scientific explanations may accord with Biblical explanations in certain places, but this is no proof for the existence of God.
PS I seem to have missed a point - where in the Bible is the claim that the world is flat (or round, or any shape)?

Science says the earth is round and orbits around the sun.
That doesn't exactly follow along with the Bible. Never mind. Biblical creation versus evolution.

The bible says the value of pi is exactly three.
Even the ancient Egyptians were able to calculate its value to several decimal places.
This alone should completely invalidate any claims the bible makes for scientific accuracy.
It also says that rabbits chew their cud, that bats are a type of bird, and that there are four-legged insects.
