I am trying to take a video file from my hard drive, the format is 'TS'.. not sure what that means and PPoint is saying this is an unknown format or Quicktime is not installed....which is true, no Quick time on Laptop.

What is the 3 letter file extension on the video? It sounds like the extension is wrong, or you might be using Microsoft Windows and trying to insert a file with .mov extension (not supported on Windows PowerPoint).
You will need to convert .mov to .avi for Windows.
