I was told not to wash the retainer in hot water, because it may warp. But I can't imagine having to remove my retainer everytime I go to places like Starbucks.

LOL, COFFEE IS PERFECTLY SAFE. JUST DON'T WASH THE RETAINER WITH BOILING WATER.

I would avoid any consumption of things that might damage the temperament of retainer over time. Maybe drinking room temp coffee or possibly iced would solve your problem. Retainers are expensive and the condition/shape of your retainer should be kept as pristine as possible to try to avoid changing its intended held shape and form. The process and materials required for a new retainer is to great and the risk of poorly retained teeth is undesired.
Also, you could try drinking coffee in one big caffeinated load, brush, then put your retainer back in, rather then having several coffees over time. Or you could try taking it out during the time you have your coffees. It is ultimately up to how much you value the dental work.

I would take it out to be safe, but I don't think you have to. Washing the retainer in hot water may warp it, and since you won't have the shape of your mouth to keep it in place, it will change shape. If the retainer is still in your mouth when the hot water enters, if it were to try to warp, it wouldn't be able to do so very well because it is being contained by your mouth.

Actually i tried drinking coffee while wearing a retainer and nothing serious happen. Maybe because i let my coffee cold first (but not too cold) before drinking it.

NO! DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING HOT WHILE WEARING A RETAINER. IT MELTED TO THE TOP OF MY MOUTH AND HAD TO GET SURGERY TO REMOVE IT. DO NOT DO IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT
