Hold strong till its over. Be strong for the dog. I do believe our pets that live with us sleep with us and are our companions feel our stress andpain. They can tell when something is "wrong". If you know this is the right thing to do don't show your pet something is "wrong" These are our feelings and should not be added to the peaceful passing of our loved ones.

I feel for you. I haven't ever personally had to put a dog of mine to sleep but I know people who have and I know it's a very emotional situation...I don't know how I could take it if i had to do it to my dogs. I have read though that whatever you do, GO WITH THEM to have it done, pat them, rub them and hold them while they are passing away. The dog LIVES for you and will make this situation MUCH easier on the dog if you are there to help comfort it. I know it hurts to watch and I know saddening but you dog knows nothing other than you and needs you there...you will also find it is great closure for you as well...
God bless you, I am sure you gave the dog the best life it could have had, and now you will give it the most peaceful death it could have.
(also, your other dogs may experience a bit of depression for missing the dog after it is gone, love on them extra when you get home and continue to do so until all of you are able to move on...it will help comfort you too)

This is the absolute worst part of being a responsible pet owner, but it sounds like you realize that it does come with the territory and it is something that you must do. Keep in mind that you are doing what is best for your beloved pet...the worst thing to endure is to see your baby suffer...there is peace in doing the right thing...even though you will miss their physical presence something awful. There is nothing that will really ease the grieving process you are about to endure..but you do have 3 other dogs to help ease your pain. I am so sorry to hear of your loss....I had to put down my all time favorite dog in January and it still hurts to not have him around. The house seems a bit empty, even though I have 2 other dogs and 3 cats. They do become a big part of our lives. Please know that you are doing the right thing in letting your baby go.

If you're anything like me you will break down and cry shamelessly. Some people say you shouldn't cry because its just an animal. These are the people who don't allow their pets to become part of the family, only property. No one can tell you what to do or how to handle it. Its like grieving for a lost family member or friend, you will deal with it in your own time and in your own way. It might be that you can't handle being in the room for the actual event, but rather elect to spend time with your dog before and after. Whatever you decide just make sure your dog knows you love him dearly.

I know you feel very sorry. My poodle had a cancer that couldn't be cured. She was put to sleep at only 6 years old and she was the best doggy friend I ever had. Some things can't be avoided. No matter how many times you have to go through this, if it's really the only choice left, it will always hurt. Just remember that this is for your poor dog's best only.

That is the bad part about having animals in your life. Generally they have shorter lifespans then humans and having to part with a beloved pet is one of the most difficult things to do. However, sometimes it is necessary to give your pet peace and be free of pain.

I am not sure what your reasons are for having to put it to sleep but think about what a unselfish act you are about to embark on. Your love for your dog is above and beyond this world... and one day you will see each other again. Who better to greet you at the pearly white gates then a dog's smile?

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. You're doing the right thing by letting your dog go peacefully and not making them suffer. I remember when my family had to put our dog due to multiple organ failures. He had been slowly declining. At the end, all he would do is lay behind the chair in our living room and cry. We were so heartbroken but we knew he was suffering. I was at school when my mom took him to the vet. She went in with him and comforted him as the vets led him to the path of peace. I remember her telling me how peaceful he looked. It's hard. But it's harder to watch them suffer. And much more cruel. Take heart in knowing your dog will be in a better place. I would recommend going with him to be by his side. That will give you closure and will make your dog feel cherished in his final minutes. Good luck. Remember that time eases all pain and your dog's spirit will be with you in your heart.

owning an animal is a huge responsibility that lasts every day you have him/her. unfortunately they have a shorter life-span than we do and we are forced to make a very hard choice. i have had to put down 3 dogs and every time it breaks my heart but i know i have done the right thing.
you sound like a great dog owner and i would be worried if you were not sad. but you have to understand that this is something you have to do for a friend.
keep your chin up and remember the great times you had and know that at times the best choice may hurt you.

I'm so sorry about your dog,but just remember that you are doing the best thing for your dog. It's a very loving thing you're doing to end his suffering. Most people refuse to do it because they think they are making a mistake, but the mistake is keeping an animal alive that is either very sick or just so old that his quality of life is gone. I know it hurts, but just remember your are doing the right thing.

if your beloved dog is having health problems the most humane thing to do is putting it to sleep. I know its hard to do but its the best way to show your pet that you love it. You wouldn't want to see it suffer or in pain would you. Be strong and do the right thing and let it rest in peace. When you take it to vet to put it to sleep, it will get a shot in the vein and will drift off to sleep and not feel a thing. Good luck t you and god bless.
