I got severely sunburnt from about 45 minutes in the water at the beach on Tuesday and I have had hundreds of small and some large blisters coming up all over my shoulders and back. I don't mind the pain too much, but these damn blisters are annoying me because I can't sling a bag over my shoulder or even wear some of my clothes. I have been applying Aloe Vera directly from a plant we have growing and have also been using a Sunburn moisturizer from the local pharmacy. Is there anything else I can do to get rid of these blisters quickly?

Honestly if you have fluid filled blisters all over your back and shoulders you need to go to the doctor. This has a pretty high risk of infection. A trip to the doctor is really your best bet.

When you bake something, say a turkey, and you take it out of the oven, you need to let it rest for a few minutes, but it is still cooking.

When someone gets a sunburn, just like any other burn, the heat gets trapped in the flesh, just like when you cook something. If you want to stop the cooking process, you have to cool it down.

When you get a sunburn, the first thing you need to do is to stop the cooking process and you do that by GENTLY applying a clean washcloth soaked with cool milk like a cold compress, since the lactic acid will help reduce inflammation and the cool towel will soothe the pain. You will will want to change the towel when it gets warm, often at first. This will be pulling the heat out. Sometimes I have even kept my skin from blistering by doing this.

Drinking fluids can aid in hydration, and eating high protein foods will assist tissue repair. Once you get most of the heat out, aloe is great, but any products with lidocaine can prevent healing and damage skin.

Now that you have the blisters, if your skin is still hot, you can still use the towel method to pull the heat out. Try not to pop the blisters.

Let nature take it's course, the skin will come off when it is ready.

Some people say it is not good to peel the skin, but if the skin under it is not sensitive, you are not doing any harm, you are just cleaning it up by removing it

Hope this helps.

P.S. If you got THAT sunburned in just 45 minutes, you really should use a stronger sunscreen, as strong as you can get, and maybe use a light cover up.

Ouch!

What I would do is place cold packs on the affected areas, then make sure to put some ointment that treats burns, scrapes, cuts etc... which will also prevent scarring of the blisters. If you need any other advice, just mail me.
