God's characteristics and features aew a mixer of all those attributed byall the religions in the world .some waring and violent religons might assert that what they say about god alone is right .some non-violent and peace lovong religions might ignore the war cries of them and might even accept their charaacterisitics also for god .Poor God will hav to ssusme all that is atibuted to HIM by all the religions whether they are congruent or incongruent .Who has the authority to say which alone is correct or incorrect amojng all that all the religions say?
Defintoely god will not claim any specific quality of characteristics or features to be His.That is the problem.but it makes it convenient for each religions to paint HIm with their favourite brushes as they like .May be God is mocking at the madness of humanity!

Hi! Great question! God is so huge (actually, infinite) that we can study His characteristics for a life-time and always be learning more about Him! One of His important characteristics is that He is love. The first link below goes into this in a cool way, with a video clip:

God has many other characteristics as well, also called attributes. Some have already been mentioned here, such as being eternal, sinless, and merciful. I did a google search and found these really good websites on the subject:

A person can study the characteristics of God, though, and not truly know Him. That would be like if I read biographies of someone and learned many facts about them, without ever meeting them. The cool thing with God is that even though He is infinite and all-powerful, and many things that are so different from us, He has invited us to get to know Him personally. When we have a relationship with Him (beginning with giving our lives to His Son, Jesus Christ), learning about His characteristics is a means of getting to know Him better, and gives us more reasons to praise Him.

The question is not "what are the characteristics of God" but rather what characteristics do YOU attribute to God? You'll find disagreement between religions, between sects, between denominations, and even between churches within the same denomination. This makes it merely a matter of opinion. But if a God has power in a person's life, it is that person that determines who or what God is. How much power God really has. And what is acceptable worship for this God.

i love this question. God is ONE and ONLY ONE. As for HIS characteristics, this is how HE describes HIMSELF.
In QURAAN, surah IKHLAAS, ch112, ALLAH says:-

0. In the name of God¸ Most Gracious¸ Most Merciful.

1. Say: He is God¸ the One and Only;

2. God¸ the Eternal¸ Absolute;

3. He begetteth not¸ nor is He begotten;

4. And there is none like unto Him.
Explanation:-
The first thing we have to note is that His nature is so sublime, so far beyond our limited conceptions, that the best way in which we can realise Him is to feel that He is a Personality, "He", and not a mere abstract conception of philosophy. He is near us; He cares for us; we owe our existence to Him. He is the One and Only God, the Only One to Whom worship is due; all other things or beings that we can think of are His creatures and in no way comparable to Him. Secondly, He is Eternal, without beginning or end, Absolute, not limited by time or place or circumstance, the Reality, that absolute existence can only be predicated of Him; all other existence is temporal or conditional. Thirdly, we must not think of Him as having a son or a father, for that would be to import animal qualities into our conception of Him. Fourthly, He is not like any other person or thing that we know or can imagine: His qualities and nature are unique. This sums up the whole argument and warns us specially against Anthropomorphism, the tendency to conceive of Allah after our own pattern, an insidious tendency that creeps in at all times and among all peoples.

There are unlimited qualities of God. And each quality is unlimited.

1. He exists everywhere.
2. He creates, he protects and he destroys.
3. He is the King of all Kings.
4. His love is unlimited and ever increasing.
5. He lives in our hearts and notes our ideas. He gives us fruit for our ideas.
6. God's body and soul are the same unlike ours.
7. He is a slave to his devotees.
8. He can only be seen by those whom He graces with his divine sight.

You could say all of them: any characteristic/feature that isn't evil. But it's safer to say that God is Love. Love is His predominant feature.

God is Spirit, unbounded and eternal. We are made in God's image, so we do have a way to know God.
