My Husband likes his hair cut short very short and i do it for him using the clippers without an attatchment. this works fine but beware that it does cut extremely short almost bald.
many people call this a woodcut.

Yes, you can clip your hair without an attachment. To get a rough idea about the the result, check the thickness of the lower blade on your trimmer and that is how long your hair will be after you finish.

Only if you want a buzz cut. Without attachments, they cut close to the scalp, and the result is a buzz cut or no hair.

If I use mine without an attachment I would be bald. It would shave ALL the hair off.

Usually, that's too long for me. I consider it depends on the guy and also his face though. Certain guys can easily pull off long hair and other people can't.
