We could all live in peace

I truly believe the world would be a MUCH more peaceful, nurturing, and pleasant place in which to live. Many organized religions - particularly the Christian-based ones - are FAR too divisive and cause far too much turmoil and strife in the world, with all of the judging and condemning and finger-pointing that goes on within them.

John Lennon realized that decades ago, which is why he suggested "And no religion, too" in his song "Imagine" - which, by the way, is NOT about communism; it's essentially about a Utopian society. He was suggesting that we get rid of anything and everything that divides people - and religion is (ironically) one of the biggest causes of that.

Wow, what a question....and a very good one! The Reverend's answer is incredibly insightful. We all know that religion is the cause of all of the wars and hatred in the world.......most of the major wars that exist today are caused by religious differences..........many of these religions are based on such barbaric traditions. "Peace on Earth" is something we will finally experience without religion. Patriarchal societies will cease to exist (wouldn't that be a joyous moment!!)
The world will be a better place!!!
Finally those beauty pageant answers will be resolved and John Lennon will rest in peace!

we don't have to get rid of religion as such ...just ORGANISED RELIGION this is what has caused and continues to cause so many problems in our past history and in the present and will do so in the future...it preaches hate , bigotry, homophobia and its full of hypocrisy...this is what will bring the world to an end and is trying hard to do now ...it won't be oil or greed it will be organised religion that causes the war to end man kind ....now if you ban this then people can still have there faith and still worship there gods in peace with out having some hypocrite twisting the supposed word of god into hating anyone who chooses to interpret these words in their own way

YES !
Religion, sexuality, gender, race and nationality always separate people somehow...
Don't believe this? Well take a look carefully in every aspects of general human daily lives everywhere in this world. Those 5 things always cause people separations someway.
So, I particularly never like religion whatsoever (even I am a believer) because clearly it is only for divorcing people everywhere instead of bringing people up together. Why is that?

less prejudice, less discrimination in a more intelligent world where it is not a fictional old man sitting on clouds "telling" people what is right and what is not, and finally science will be the major path to follow! yet, i have a feeling that unfortunately it will not happen in my life :( but one day for sure we ll get rid of all religions. THANK GOD!

The first poster hit the nail on the head. Also there would be less conflicts in the world and also science would no longer be hindered by religion.

The world would be a much better place. Posters like jared and kibye have it backwards. Those problems are due to religion not because a lack of.

Rational thinking, independent thoughts and free thinkers would be greatly welcomes to society.

Edit:

Posters like lion of judah are perfect examples of how religion is dangerous to society. people like him would just love to force everyone to be religious and turn this country into a theocracy.

Then we'd get a lot of idiots trying to install new ones, which will be just as corrupt as the old ones. Also, I just have to laugh at all the idiots who wrote stuff about Jesus in response to this question. If there were no religion, that means no Christianity either you nitwits!

that would never happen.
Most humans need some superstition to follow, so the human species will reinvent a religion of sorts, to keep the people protected from too much knowledge.
