She is right. It is a proven fact that if you eat slow, you eat less because you have more time to digest and your stomach will feel fuller fast. this is a method that is used in weight loss and it works. I eat very slow, my husband eats to fast, I can never finish a full plate. He ends up having seconds. Sorry, but she's right.

You actually do eat more when you eat fast, b/c you do not give your brain receptors enough time to give your body a signal that you are full. This does happen when you eat slowly, like you are supposed to do. Eating slower also aides in not getting an upset stomach too. However, eating fast can make you feel full if you are eating really heavy foods, b/c your body cannot break it down fast enough, so it kind of sits in, (what feels like) the top of your throat for a few seconds b/4 it goes down. So truthfully, she is more right, but it is not a good thing to do, since it can cause digestive problems.

Well she's right because if you eat fast, you brain can't tell your stomach it's full until about 15 minutes after you take your first bite. So in theory if you eat a full meal in 5 or 10 minutes, you might not think you're full, so you keep going and then eventually you're REALLY stuffed.

Making sure your food is chewed properly and putting your fork down in between is always a good rule. You tend to enjoy the food more too.

Bon Apetit!

You can eat more food if you eat more quickly - the body starts to feel satiated about 20 minutes after you start eating. So if you gobble down a ton of food in 20 minutes, you can eat more.

BUT you will feel much more satisfied and enjoy your meal more if you eat slowly and deliberately. This will also keep you from overeating.

So your girlfriend is correct, but you have the right idea about the healthiest eating habits.

I eat very fast, which means I don't chew very thoroughly.

That means if I eat 3000 calories a day, I only digest a portion of them (let's say 2000) because chewing is necessary for digestion.

So if you eat very fast, your digestive system never really absorbs the calories. (you p00p out undigested food, basically)

So eating fast means you can eat a LITTLE bit more, yes, I agree with your theory.

Eating slower, chewing, makes you feel like you are filling up quicker.
That's what I was always told.

technically she is; if you're talking about one sitting.

if you eat faster; you give your stomach less time for the stretch receptors to react; so by the time they do react and tell you that you're full; you've already shoved another two pounds of food down your fat throat.
