I guess you would suggest an all out war with russia, over freakin serbia that would be nuts. That is not a national security matter to us.
What is wrong with you guys. There are people left over from the old regime around. Their Monetary system collapsed. They changed names. Putin is now exploring whether it is Moral to keep power after his term. If you think theyre are not factions that would have the USSR back as theyre name then you are naive. You do not know what you are talking about. Serbia fall to the commie Russians? Your ignorance is utterly shocking.
Nato bombed Belgrade less than ten years ago, which didn't especially endear them to Serbs. Basically Serbia is saying to the west to butt out of the Kosovan independance issue.
There are traditionally very strong ties between Serbia and Russia, for reasons of history, ethnicity, religion, language, and culture. However, it is unlikely that Serbia actually would allow Russian military bases in Serbia (even if Russia wanted them there).
Basically, Serbia does not want Kosovo to become a US satellite on her doorstep. Serbia has had very bad experiences with Nato. This is just their way of letting off steam and showing their frustration with unwanted western interference.
Serbs are not frightened of 'falling' to Russia, because that isn't even on the cards. That is just ludicrous. Where do you get your news? Praying for western help? Are you on drugs? Jesus...

I wouldnt, In the great war of freedom WWII , America let all of Eastern Europe and some of western Europe fall into the hands of Commie Russia. Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, huge chunk of Finland, Poland, Ukraine, Prussia, East Germany, Czech, Solvokia, Romania, Hungry, Bulgaria, and the list goes on and on. Some war of freedom. More nations were oppressed after the war than when it started.

How many serbs are there? I'll guess no more than 240,000 and that includes Croats.
Ethnic serbs, probably around 180,000
What is it about these people and this region that has the world in such a tizzy? If you look out a 5th story window in Brooklyn on an average day, you can see more people in a glance. If such a small group of people can't figure out a way to get along in this day and age, there is no hope for any of them.
If I were running the UN, I would go into Kosovo and Bosnia, Serbia, Sofia, Croatia and all those junk states that just live in some one's imagination, give each one of those people a cash payment that would be more money than they could ever earn and tell them all to go live someplace else or just shut the hell up.

I did not know that . So when has Serbia not been under some other empire since Kosovo in the 1300s?
After Yugoslavia broke up, didn't the Serbs committ war crimes and genocide? Hard to feel motivated to rescue them.
