i work in a homeless shelter.....i see 1000s of alcoholics come thru and none are Christians.
wonder why you didn't consider them in your research.

Alcoholics eventually end up in a deep depression and then turn to Christ. When they give up the booze they have jesus to lean on and they become "recovering alcoholics!" That is a label society puts on them anyway and society is so quick to point the finger if they make one tiny mistake!
Give the guy a break! He is a recovered alcoholic and has not denied that. Recovered means they do not do it any more.
A lot of his gaffes are down to deliberate slips to create humour. I may not believe in all his politics, bu t I think he is great. I am not even american!

In George Bush's life, it was a long walk with Billy Graham that turned the light on in his life.
Billy explained God to 'W' in a way that he could not deny it. It is hard to reject the word when it is given to you by someone that lives that word out in their personal life.
You could call 'W' an ex-alcoholic, or you could call him an ex-wild child.
As to other Alcoholics, some come to the end of themselves and have little choice but to place faith in someone other than themselves. Once they accept the message, something happens in them that, in time, makes them a different person.

they are looking for something to help them make it through life and alcohol helps for a time until it takes its toll, so most turn to religion for hope, its the inner self crying out for help. he's not the only one drinking in Washington, many are acting out in a lot of different ways, like the bathroom incident!
