I was playing my ps3 yesterday and had been for quite a while. I had been playing Call of Duty 4 for ages.

Then it started to make a weird noise. It sounded like an aeoroplane in the distance (thats the only way I can describe it) then the noise started to get louder, and louder. After about half an hour I decided to switch it off thinking maybe it was oerheated since I had been playign it for so long.

This morning I woke up and switched it back on but after half an hour it made the same noise (quietly again). I have switched it off again.

Does anyone know why this is? Is it just the fan?

Make sure the ps3 isn't in a confined space. THen make sure it's level. Also is there anything new in the area where the ps3 is sitting. The vibration from the system could be causing the other things in the area to make noise. If the ps3 is in a combined space and heat is backing up into it off a wall or something the fan will kick on. the fan that you here kick on (but should't be that loud) is different then the regular operating system fans. CHeck your manual for how the ps3 shows you when to turn it off due to heat. It has a fail safe that will tell you when the ps3 is reaching an internal temperature that is below the critical temp but getting too close.

Also is the noise coming from the ps3 or the tv?

It probably is just the fan. Chances are it was doing it before but you didn't notice it, but now you're tuned to it, it sounds louder.
Personally, i'd turn it on again, listen for the fan coming on, and then after a while it should go off again. If this happens then you should be OK.

i might return it. i've got had my PS3 on account that final year, and that has in no way happened. You did no longer %. up the console whilst it replaced into on? I did that with my 360, undesirable decision lol.

This is a common fault and it needs lubricating.Unplug from the mains then place it in a bath tub full of hot water not forgetting to put in the bubbly stuff to make it smell nice.Job done.
