It is the awful Big Brother scene already present in some ancient countries, where growers who traditionally saved seed from this year's harvest for next year's harvest can no longer do so and are forced to pay ruinous prices for the seed available on the market.

It is the feeling of being controlled. Already we are regimented in terms of what types of fruit and vegetables are to be bought and sold. The more power is exerted over the system, the more helpless we become.

It is natural for a certain amount of insect and animal life to be a by-product of agriculture, as this is all part of the natural cycle. We do not know the long term effects of producing crops which are free of such insect and animal life, which makes us wary for the future. I like an environment full of birds and butterflies, not to mention the bees and honey which are disappearing at an alarming rate, and hate to think of a future without them.

seedless and other varieties of foods have been produced through many years of breeding and development and as such bear no genes which were not in the original undomesticated versions of the plants. This process is assisted evolution by selection of preferred traits, not genetic modification.
People moan about gm products when they involve the insertion of genes from other organisms to give a product with 'foreign' genes and the natural concern about the consequences of uncontrolled conmbinations of DNA from other species.
