The number of RBC's could remain unaffected by smoking over time however changes in the amount of smoking can alter its count. Increased smoking definitely alters and decreases the oxygen-carrying capacity of the RBC's. As one of physiological response, number of RBC's may increase to some extent to compensate. There are also few research findings stating that a change in the smoked amount can result to a decrease in RBC count to some extent.
