I'd say it's just ignorance. Personally i'm a believer, but sadly throughout history Bible has often been 'read' in a way to suit someone's interests, like in the past they used to randomly pick out passages in the Bible which seemngly justified slavery.
Same with homosexuality, frankly nowehere in the Bible do we find any condemnation of gay relationships, the only so-called homosexual examples we get from the Bible are of straight people, often married, who filled with LUST go on to have homosexual intercourse or orgies. Of course that is wrong, but a relationship where both parties mutually love each other is not condemned anywehere.
There is something very wrong about picking and mixing Bible passages like candy at the store o_O

People often misinterpret the Bible. They take it's phrases out of context and look for text that justifies their prejudices. They use that text to misquote the Bible over and over again.
The people who do this are often uneducated and misinformed. They don't take into account how many years ago the bible was written in a time when people were not as aware and not as informed about homosexuality as we are today. They also don't take into account other conditions such as what part of the world the bible was written in, who it was written by, the way in which people phrased things back then, etc. The bible mentions nothing of homosexuality. Homosexuality wasn't even known until the 19th century so the authors of the bible knew nothing of it.

The philosophy is to 'hate the sin, love the sinner.' If someone who is religious believes that they are supposed to hate the so-called sinner, they have missed the whole point of the new testament & should be reminded to 'love others as yourself' and to 'treat others as you would want them to treat you.'

Because in addition to their schizoid delusional mental disorder, causing their religious superstitions, they have another recent mental illness called "homophobia".
Most people having this illness are just having difficulties coming to term with their own homosexual feelings. They think that by acting homophobic, they can hide, deep inside what they feel for their own gender.
Sad really....

its not the faith, its certain people who lack critical thinking skills, or who are afraid of homosexuals.
I have a great many religious friends that have zero issue with homosexuality because they are able to think critically.

Religious people don't hate gay people, they hate their behaviour.
All of us are humans created in the image of God and He loves us all. But you see there are things that God stated in His word(The Bible) that He does not approve off, and being gay is one of them. In fact it is considered as being cursed. Read Romans 1 vs 18-32.
As to the authenticity of the Bible, I'm not going to raise a big argument about that. I know that God is real and His word (the Bible) is powerful and it is truth. If you don't believe in Him it is your choice.
But for us who believe in Him, He has brought a new revelation of life.
God bless you.

They are going to lie and say they don't when every sensible person knows that they do. That is what their bible tells them to do.
