This is just an idea for the purpose of saving the pictures you have on the card right now. Once you have them safely stored then you can spend time playing with the camera and practicing with it.

Try taking the card to a digital photo processing place. They should have a machine that can read the card. They will most likely have an option to save the pictures on a CD for you. You shouldn't even have to print them out right away, or you could go through them while you are there (time consuming if you have a lot of pictures).

As others have said don't format until you have your pictures as this erases them forever from that card. (This is only bad when you aren't ready, later formatting is fine and sometimes necessary.)

A card reader is a piece of optional equipment that you ought to buy. They are tiny and plug into a USB port on your computer. You can get one (they're cheap) at any electronics store that sells digital cameras, a camera store, or online from lots of merchants.

As a last resort, after you've tried all the other suggestions people have made, take the card to a full service photo store and ask them to get the images off of the card for you. If there is something there, they should be able to do it.

Best of luck!

Whatever you do, DON'T FORMAT!

Try uploading the pictures a different way... either try using a different computer, or if you are using a USB cable, you might need to buy a card reader instead (or vice-versa). If those things don't work, talk to a tech person. But don't format!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

If you format the card, that is what format means, like a disk. Everything will be wiped off.

RTFM - or google for the make and model on the maunfacturers website and RTFM there

No problem. I believe that by marinading the camera in cabbage water for 3 days the ixus should spontaniously correct the format issue. Hope that helps

what your best of doing is getting a cheap memory card reader you put it into the slot and plug it into your usb lead and load them onto the computor save them in a file and format the memory card then you can then put this back on your memory card but i would keep them on a file on your computor they will be safe there hun!!!

Just think - this could likely have been avoided had you and your mum taken time to READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera BEFORE using it on such an important vacation.

Good luck and I hope you save your photos.
