What is the size to set to when taking photos with digital camera?

Can the small size print on A5 normally?

The camera does not care what size the image will print to. Whether film or digital, the surface of the area that captures the image is less that two square inches.

This image is, then ENLRGED to whatever print size you want. As the first responses say, take the picture with the highest resolution possible to make the best prints.

Most new, digital photographers, if they have to make any compromises in resolution, do so because of the limitations on the camera's flash card memory. Higher resolution means larger file size. Larger file sizes means room for fewer pictures in the card.

My advice for those is to purchase a larger capacity flash card, and keep the old one as a back up, extra memory.

agree with the above answere,
but there are few condsiderations, in case you don't have any problem for storage, then use the maximum available(it will help incase you want to print at large size). but if you have less storage space then photo till 1 megapixel can easily be printed on A5 size, without any distortion. any photo smaller then this size may not give a satisfactory result at A5 size

Set the largest possible size ALWAYS. I have always worked on that principal - you can always downsize for emailing etc, but you can't (satisfactorily) upsize , at least not without complicated and expensive programs like Genuine Fractals.

Later: I totally disagree with the third answer about taking a flash photograph of your screen to obtain a smaller picture - that strikes me as plain daft! A total no.no. in my view. It is easy to downsize in an imaging program, then save that smaller photograph without destroying the first

Memory is cheap. Always capture at the largest size with the least compression. This will give you the best quality coming out of the camera.

It's better to have an image too large and downsize it than to try and upsize something.

heres a tip for you take `large ` in fine.
if you need to make picture` smaller `to E-mail bring picture up on your screen,take flash of camera and take picture on a lower pixel count.
this way you can enlarge to A5 or reduce for E-mail

for digital photos must see how many mega pixels you use!
for me i use Cana 5.0 mega pixels is good to print R5 is ok.
4.0mega pixels -R4
6.0mega pixels-A5
