I was a member of Hollywood Tans while at college. Then I graduated and moved back home, but forgot to cancel my account at HT. I called and asked to cancel, but they refused to let me do this without going into the salon. Since I lived nowhere near there anymore, I couldn't do this. I thus got a new debit card from my bank, closing the old debit card.

Now I'm worried that this might hurt my credit score, if HT has decided to continue to charge my account. Or, can this not apply to me since the account was made with a *debit* card and it was the *debit* card that I closed. Please let me know if I should be worried about this! Thanks.

well legally they have to cancel if you request it. even if its by phone. no where legally does it say you have to be personally there. and yes they can turn you into a credit agency for this. because they arent getting paid by you. i would seek out help from a local BBB if they try to take money. Call HT again and tell them you cant come in, because you are out of state and they HAVE to cancel..and if they dont its a violation of law and you'll turn them into the BBB.

Debit enjoying cards in basic terms artwork on the money you have in the financial business enterprise account they arrive out of and in case you spend greater effective than you have in that account you will get and over drawn fee from the financial business enterprise, the place as credit is a private loan, and that they assemble interest, and its an entire diffrent international. A frightening undesirable international in my opion yet thats me. So base line, debit enjoying cards are little plastic exams you reuse repeatedly back, save paper, use plastic lol.

It is the contract that you had with them and not the form of payment that may end up as a negative on your reports.

I don't know if you have a copy of the contract you made with them, if so you need to look it over for their cancellation rules.

I agree with Big Bobby, send them a cancellation notice by mail. Send it certified mail return receipt.

Include in your letter that you had contacted them by phone on xx/xx/2007 to cancel the account but you were told by an employee that you had to cancel in person. That unfortunately appearing in person is impossible for you since you no longer live in . That you are sending the letter to them as your cancellation notice and you are requesting the cancellation notice to be retroactive back to the date of your attempted cancellation phone call.

Keep a copy of the letter and the signed green certified mail card in a safe place just in case they try to play hardball.

If you had called to try and cancel on a timely basis before your next payment was due, and depending on how the contract is written, in my opinion if it were me I might refuse to pay any amount they may try to collect.

If you did not call on a timely basis and had called to cancel after the next payment, or more, were due, if it were me I would agree to pay the payments that were due "before" the telephone cancellation attempt.

Send them a registered letter telling them that you live out of state and are cancelling your account.
You will be required to pay whatever you owe. When the debit is refused, it will be charged back to Hollywood Tans. Then they will come after you.
