The family isn't close---we only get together at Christmas and rarely talk during the year.

I'd prefer to pay bills or spend the money on my children this year. I'm sure they feel the same.

Tell me what you'd say in a letter. Funniest letter gets 10 points.

Dear Blessed Family,

This year for Christmas, in lieu of tangible gifts, I give you the gift of charity. I have donated the money in each of your names to a needy family. These funds will be put towards paying their bills, for their Christmas dinner, and for presents for their deserving children.

Have a happy and healthy year,
Love,
The Needy Family

Dear Family,

Although I would like to spend $20-$25 per gift this year on my fabulous relatives, I have decided to invest in some beach front property in Afghanistan. Now, I hear there is a little bit of cosmetic construction that needs to be done, but my real estate agent, Mikombo Akoye, says that a few coats of paint will brighthen the place right up.

Now for the good news...I am inviting all of you over for a rocking super bowl party. Your invitations are in the mail.

Peace.

Look guys we may all be in a competition to establish who the black sheep is but I will put my hands up now and be it for the year! I do not have money to burn and I have no wish to be the person who buys the most expensive presents! There is a scrooge every year and I guess I am him this year as well! Why dont we just do a secret santa thing or something! Everyone gets one name and thats the person they have to buy a gift for! Then everyone has to guess who bought the present for them! That'll take everyones mind of the burnt turkey!

All my years I was under this impression that no self respecting person in the world will ask for a gift to be given to them. And that too specifying the value of the gift.!You may write to them that this year you were eagerly looking forward to receive a gift from them. Hey, no don't do that. Do not lower your status. Express your failure to meet their expectations politely.
