I gave up my seat on the bus to an elderly man, I called every adult customer sir or ma'am, I did the work assigned to me without complaining, then helped others finish their tasks.I gave the panhandler on the corner by the store my spare change, and a hot coffee.

Sadly, people say respect must be earned. No, that's a new idea, started by large corporations as a reason to treat others unffairly respect should be given to everyone, regardless of their situation. The 'I don't have to respect anyone else' attitude is the cause of most of the problems in the world today. You DO have to respect others, simply because they have the same rights as you do

I visited a girl today that I've been visiting for 2 years now every week. She's 19 and encarcerated. Late tonight, I drove out to pick up a person I know to check their blood pressure. 204/155. Holy smokes!

Today I showed much respect to my good friend by watching eight hours of lectures and documentaries so that I might understand some of the things he is talking about before I judge the validity of his statements. I respected my brother, whose house I am sharing for a few days, by being a considerate guest, cleaning up after myself, and helping with household chores. I continue to show respect for my fellow R&S junkies by keeping my answers polite and positive so as to encourage a sense of community and open minded discussion. All in all, I've had a pretty respectful day.
With Love,

I wasn't aware that there was any requirement for me to show respect for others.
Respect is earned, not a 'right.'
EDIT: For the love of reason, don't hand us the liberal "big corporations are responsible for society's ills" excuse. That kind of paranoia is more dangerous than 'disrespect' ever will be. If you think that society is supposed to be one giant "love-in," then you are both delusional and DISRESPECTFUL of the rights of others to have their own opinions and values.
This society continues to spiral downwards with every new allowance made in the name of 'humanity.' I saw a news clip a couple of weeks ago in which Webster's Dictionary was considering changing the defintions of a few words because they were commonly misused, and I wanted to just vomit for the decaying state of the world. Do you want to blame the acceptance and embracing of broad-scale stupidity on 'big corporations' as well? People get lazier, dumber, and more irresponsible with every new generation, and the media, government, and bleeding-heart hippies want us all to embrace and 'respect' the boundless decline of the world.
I can not respect a child that makes demands of their parents, curses their parents, or expects entitlements from their parents without doing anything to earn them. I also can't respect a parent that allows a child to do that.
I can't respect anyone that uses their race, their financial woes, or their social status as an excuse to be a criminal or a leech on society. I can't respect anyone that says that their government 'owes them something' when they've done nothing to earn it.
I can't respect anyone that is perfectly capable of working, getting an education, and contributing to society but refuses to do so, rather living on welfare or other government aid, and sucking the government dry of funds that people that CAN'T do for themselves need. THAT'S why Social Security is failing. Social Security isn't failing because of the people that worked their whole lives and paid into it; it's failing because some 'humanitarian' government psychiatrist declared heroin and methadone addictions as 'disabilities' and allowed social wastes to live free on government money that people like me have paid into.
I can't respect a society that can't come to the conclusion that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are CRIMINALS and need to be returned to where they came from. It's not a matter of racism or bigotry, it's a matter of LAW and COMMON SENSE.
Respect? There's not much left in this world that warrants much respect. When the doctrine of society suggests that people are not even expected to respect themselves, then why on Earth would anyone think it's appropriate to make others respect them.
MY respect is earned. I'm not the root of all evil. I just have standards, and if more people did, then maybe there would be something to respect.

I communicated with Jews and Muslims without trying to convert them and messing with their day.
God has a plan for these guys and Christians are not part of it, as we are leaving soon.
God will pick His 144000 Jews and and reclaim the rest to His original plan.
The rest will be punished.
Not my place to go to their home and insult anymore than the atheist that hang out in the R&S section have.

I was respectful, kind and caring. as I am everyday, with all my dealings with people that I deal with.
We have to respect ourselves and as long as we conduct ourselves properly, we automatically show respect for our fellow man.
