i will not tell it can't hurt because it can, but there are things the nurse who is doing it can do to make it hurt less
please have your mom & dad talk to them about it
they can numb the site where they are going to put IV in and if they warm your arm up, this will cause the veins to stand up better, also have mom or dad be there with you, they can hold you other hand
look at them whiles its going on, try to think of other things, you might still feel a little sting but its real important that you stay real still so they only have to do it once OK

Good Luck there Big Guy

honestly, it all depends... it depends on if the person doing it knows what they are doing, it depends on the size of the catheter (needle), it depends on where they put it... it the catheter is 10 or 14 it is going to hurt no matter where they stick it.. but 18 and up does not hurt as much.. if a person knows what they are doing it will only hurt for a second, as it goes in.. to me, hands and wrists hurt the most.. if they go through more than what they are supposed to it will hurt... sometimes when i give blood they send these people to start my donation that dont have a clue what they are doing and even though i tell them exactally where my vein is they wont listen and after they get the 14 ga in me they twist and turn it.. and they wonder why i dont come back for months...
when i get one, i watch as they do it, to me, it makes the pain a little less, although i am gripping something with my other hand thinking "i am going to transfer the pain" some people it helps them to look away and think of something else..

I think for most people it doesnt.

But when i was in the hospital a stupid newbie nurse was trying to get the IV into me and couldnt find my vein. She stuck me about 5 different times. Finally found my vein but the needle popped back out and blood sprayed across the room. It hurt like hell.

But don't worry... i have an incredibly low tolerance for pain. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Really it is just a pinch. I have given blood and had a kidney stone removed. Both times requiring just a little pinch from the IV needle going in. . Pinch a small piece of your skin and that is how it will feel. Don't watch them do it. If your watching it. Yes it may hurt a little more.

It's not as painful as it is terrifying, espeically if you have a fear of needles. It's kind of like getting pinched really hard by someone with long nails, but once it's in, it's not that bad, you just can't move your arm or it'll bend the needle up and make taking it out hurt.

It depends on how smooth the nurse or doctor is, and how sensitive you are, and where they insert the IV.

First advice is to RELAX. It's not going to kill you, and at it's worst, it's still not that bad. However, getting all wound-up will make it hurt worse than it has to.

Just chill, kid. You'll pull through.

No, not much. The tape being peeled off your arm, after the IV is finished, hurts a lot worse.

I've had an I V in the top of my hand and in the bend in my elbow...The one in my hand hurt Less because you tend to want to bend your elbow causing pain while its in. The hand does not bend so Less pain once in. But the pain is bareable going in. Just close your eyes and turn away...

nope.

it stings a little, but that's usually the rubbing alcohol they apply first - not the needle.

the needle is too small and sharp and there is not enough nerve endings in your arm for it to really register as pain properly

It just stings when they first put it in. Children don't hardly cry when it happens too them.
