After all, they are acting as the bible literally tells them to. The bible is gods word, and tells us how we should behave. Who are we to second guess or try to interperet gods word? Each sect of religion interperets gods word in its own way, because it contradicts itself so much. murder is wrong, murdering a bad kid is okay. It says that! Hey have faith that there is a creator, but come on! You really can't see the ludicrousness of your beliefs? Ask questions! Where did your god come from? chicken and the egg. we don't know and never will with asshats believing in fairy tale stories.

Every answer so far is another example of picking and choosing which part of gods word you want to follow. WBC points out plenty of passages showing they are right, as do you people. Hmm. Maybe a supreme being wouldn't be so vague in how he wanted his creations to behave

No actually they are violating Gods Word. The bible says that we should love one another not blame people for something that isnt their fault. The Westboro "church" claims soldiers are dying because we have openly embraced homosexuality. This isnt true. Soldiers are dying because we are at war. The homosexual community recieved its punishment in the form of AIDS. The bible says hate the sin not the sinner. If you want to read it literally then do so but be sure you truly understand what you are reading before you open your mouth and look like the back end of a donkey. The bible does not contradict itself. Those radical sects contradict the bible by taking from it what they want and not putting the passages they are using in context with the rest of that portion of scripture. If you look at all cultures from the beginning of time we have searched for a higher power, someone to be responsible for our well being. The gods are different flavors but bottom line is we all want someone to lean on when life gets so overwhelming. The Westboro people are poor examples of what christianity is all about. I suggest that you look into other churches and see what real christianity is about. Check out the Christian and Missionary Alliance. They are an old and established christian organization and they are doing Gods work around the world. That is a real church. Compair them to these Westboro jerks and see if they stand up. I dont think they do.

Well that is why I am an un-Churched Christian(Or Jesus follower as I sometimes call myself), each of these sects drift away from the teachings of the Bible because the leaders are more concerned with Church attendance(& money) than teaching the truth.
Anyone who listens to a preacher without reading the quoted scripture for themselves is just following Man , not Jesus.

NO! The verses in the bible that mention homosexuality are mostly mistranslated. There are three gay relationships in the bible that are never criticized.
The fact is that the Westboro Baptist Church is interfering with the conduct of a religious ritual when they disrupt a funeral. That shouldn't be allowed anywhere.

My Bible does not teach me to be angry, bitter, hostile, and militant. They have distorted the teachings of the Bible and will be judged so accordingly. Every family has a bad sheep. They are Christianities... [Amongst others] May the Lord have mercy on their souls. They really believe that what they are doing is acceptable and pleasing in the eyes of the Lord. It is not so. They have seated themselves in God's throne. Dispensing judgment and condemnation.

Nothing about the Westboro Baptist Church is correct.
Everything about them is cruel and sadistic.
There is a reason why most of the churches members are also members of the Phelps family.
Because even the most right wing fundamentalists think they are off their nut.

If any wants to pay the cost, it is all the same either way, what is done is done and all including God knows all about everything, there was the same in the days of Jesus, what did Jesus do? Who wants to answer to God with what ever conscience he chooses to must do so.

It seems to me the Wesboro Baptist Church was a bit tactless in saying what they said. They used their right of freedom of speech, which came about at the cost of many lives, to say something tactless about someone who died trying to give others the right to freedom of speech.
