Im in the Coast Guard (MST), I have never heard of this split training program. The reserves is a great option, getting to go straight to "A" school.

Going straight to "A" school will save you a lot of time, before making Petty Officer status. It took me 1.5 years to get into a school.

This sounds wrong, but many reservists go to A school, get there crows, then go active. It under cuts active duty members who are waiting to make it, but it works out well. If I would have known this I would have done it. Also you have good control of your future, if they can't offer you a billet at a station of your liking you stay reservist.

If you want any info, I will give you my truthful opnion, not what the CG wants to tell you.
