Thanks to all who contributed. I had a feeling that was going to be the answer. I guess the next step is to contact a car moving company. DOH!

That is not true, you can request, to send it to another state. i did it, they agreed because it was cheaper. Now what i did was drive it and they paid what they normally pay (lodging, food, gas).

I was in Louisana got stationed in HI. They paid me to take it to IL, my home state, because it was cheaper. Now your situation is a lil different, but you should look into it a lil further.

Make them show you PROOF, they wont do it. Them saying no, means nothing, cuz believe it or not some Yeomen are to lazy to do the right thing.

Compared to the civilain sector, YES....it is bad. Some of us have Bachelor's degree, some have Master's, and some even have doctorates (i'm just bringing up Enlisted folks) and if you compare my job and education to that of my civilian counterpart....they make much more money then I did. You bring up good points, that the military pays for housing, food, electricity, water, heating, education and healthcare...but that only applies to some and not all. If you live in the barracks/housing all utilities minus cable and phone are covered but for those who have to live off-base (base housing is not always available to single E-5's and above or even those with family) the BAH that is provided hardly ever covers rent plus utilities. Oh and $290 a month in BAS is not enough for food if you include breakfast, lunch, and dinner....even if I ate at the chow hall everyday, 3 square meals....$290 won't cover it. Education benefits are without a doubt the best but depending on your background and your state you can pretty much get the same benefits in the civilian world, you just got to ask around. Healthcare....yes it is free for the service member and most of the time for their family (co-pays). So there's a plus. You also have to add in what one of the poster's stated above me....we spend money on uniforms, yes we can get a tax write-off for it but who really saves every receipt? There's just little expenses here and there that military members have that just aren't covered by base pay, BAH, and BAS. They do get special pay when they pull special duties or are deployed but....you can't put a price on things like that. But in all honesty when I was in the AF I did make some damn good money. I was what they call a DINK (dual-income-no-kids). My hubby and I were able to take vacations at least once a quarter and we both had our toys and a nice house. This isn't the case with most...on average I would have to say about 90% get underpaid and 10% get what is right. And at the end of the day...we pay our own salaries.

The answer is yes and no. The military will reimburse you to ship your vehicle up to what it would have cost to drive that vehicle from CA to GA. Currently it is $0.15/mile (reimbursement may be higher depending on why you drove; i.e. both of you flying, your husband got injured in Korea and can't drive, etc.)

No... you can only get paid vehicle shipping on a return from overseas PCS if you took your vehicle with you overseas. In order for them to pay shipment this time, he would have had to have them ship it to Korea as well. For CONUS PCSing, you have to pay vehicle shipping out of pocket or just drive em yourself. Sorry, I know it's not the news you wanted to hear.

(incidently, if you ever go to germany TAKE A BEAT UP CAR WITH YOU... I can't tell you how many people get screwed thinking they'll just buy a BMW for a lot less over there and ship it back, only to get screwed paying thousands to ship because the military only ships if you brought a vehicle with you in the first place)

Talk to TMO (Traffic Management Office) if they accept the vehicle then youl need to drive it to a location for them to place it in a box and send it to a pick up point near the base(this will take time). Or you can arrange your husband to get droped off where you live and drive there in your vehicle and they would pay you to drive there with your vehicle. Call your husband when hes at TMO to get the details correct about it

The military will only pay to ship a POV from stateside to an overseas base location or from an overseas base to a stateside location. They will not pay to ship a POV from a stateside base to a stateside base.

nope. now if the car was in Korea, yes....

HOWEVER, you can drive it there and get paid milegae and per diem. we did that when we moved from Japan to San Diego and our car was in storage in Norfolk. They paid for his plane ticket to Norfolk and paid him for 7 days travel time across country. you just have to ask Ticketing to route one of you through to where the car is.

they will ship it to your address.
If they give you any problems ask for their supervisor.
It is in the manual they have.
