This is going to be the by far the most crazy answer you will get, but believe me this is so good.
When I was growing up they served this at school and I carried it out through my adulthood.
Wieners in Bar B Q Sauce over mashed potatoes. Right now you are saying YUCK, but don't until you try it. It really is good. I promise!!!!!

I had a great meal from a resteraunt a while ago that had Mashed potato on the bottom, with steamed snow peas on top followed by a peice of rib fillet (*but any steak would do) and drizzled with garlic and mushroom gravy. Best meal ever!
Aussies love Bangers and Mash (sausages!) but any steak such as T-bone is a great main dish. You could try adding garlic or onion salt in to your mashed potatoes to give it extra kick on top of your milk and butter taste.
I am a HUGE mashed potato fan!

make a beef roast in the oven with carrots and then thicken the drippings from that and have that with your mashed potatoes. Have a salad and some biscuits or bread and a vegetable. Makes a nice meal with your mashed potatoes because if your husband likes mashed potatoes he would probably want gravy too.
Meat loaf would be good. ham steaks, pork chops, baked fish, steak, i have even made meatballs and gravy with mashed potatoes.

Meatloaf with mushroom gravy...yummy !
1 1/2 to 2 pound ground chuck
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 slices bread, crusts removed
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
salt and pepper
2 tablespoons diced onion
8 ounces sliced mushrooms
1 tablespoon Olive oil
1 tablespoon flour
2 cups beef broth
a large mixing bowl, combine ground meats; blend with the finely chopped onion and set aside.
Tear the trimmed bread into small pieces; soak in the milk until most of the milk has been absorbed.
In a medium bowl, combine the soaked bread with the beaten eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. With your hands, blend the egg mixture thoroughly with the meat. Season with salt and pepper. Form mixture into an oval shape. Bake meatloaf in a preheated 400° oven for one hour.
While the meatloaf is baking, sauté the diced onion and mushrooms in the oil until tender. Add the flour; cook until lightly browned. Add the broth and simmer for about 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. To serve, slice the meatloaf; top with mushroom sauce. And put some on your mashed potatoes too !

Make this super meatloaf my husband invented:
1 lb. ground dark turkey
1/2 bag bread cubes for stuffing (Not Stove top)
1/2 diced onion
1 egg
Mix well. Press into an 8 inch cast iron skillet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes in a 350 degree F. pre-heated oven, or until internal temperature is 160 degrees.

ok i always do fish sticks, tarter sauce and mashed potatoes for my young ones. Since he is a grown man you could do something like the fish fillets. Also, i make potato tacos. I heat up a tortilla just enough to be able to bend it. Fill it with mashed potatoes and a slice of jack cheese or cream cheese. I then fry it in oil. When it's done we eat them with Tapatio hot sauce. So good!!!
