Athiest,
I have watched a debate between two sides. One that believes God exists and one that is blaspheming him. I am not trying to say tell you that you have to believe (As a creature of Free Will you have the right not to believe in God, as I have the right to believe) but why on Earth would you say He doesn't exist. I can understand someone saying that they have not recieved enough information to believe in him but I can't understand why someone would commit themselves to eternal damnation through such action.
example:
If you are hanging by a rope. One person is telling you that there is no gravity and to cut the line. The second guy is telling you that there is and if you cut it you will die. Which would you do? I can understand not having enough proof about gravity that you wouldn't believe the second but would you have enough trust in the first, that you would risk you life in such a feat?
Why would you do the same concerning eternity?

Some of you are not understanding the question.
If you have a gun in you hand and it is held against your and one person is telling you that it is not load and if you pull it you will be o.k., a second is telling you that it is and if you pull it you WILL die. You can't see the chamber because the gun is held against you head. You don't have to complete believe the second person concerning the bullet but would you have enough trush in the first that you would pull the trigger?
Why would you do this concerning heaven and hell. You don't have to say "I believe in them" (I understand that you don't have enough proof personally to make that transition) but why would you commit yourself to a position that would totally eliminate you from it?

I am not saying that I would discredit you belief in trolls, dragons or anything of the such. What I am saying is, if you told me that I would surely go to a place of eternal pain if I said anything against it, I would not place myself in a position that would surely send me there. I would say "At this time I do not have enough proof that your dragon (troll or whatever) exist" but I would not say that "I do not believe the dragon (troll or whatever) exist.
I could not cut the rope without knowing for sure nor could I pull the trigger. I would hang there or hold the gun until the point in which I die or an infallible answer is presented to me. That is all I am saying.

I am going to answer this question before reading other answers because it starts off so blatently insulting and ignorant .
Atheists do not blaspheme "god" . They do not believe in the existance of "god"(s) so they can NOT blaspheme him ( She ? It ?)
"...why on Earth would you say He doesn't exist." [?] You then answered your own question correctly :
"I can understand someone saying that they have not recieved enough information to believe in him..."
"...eternal damnation through such action.
example:
If you are hanging [ etc.] ..."
My answers :
1. I believe in gravity ( here on earth )because it HAS been proven though emperical evidence and scientific experimentation, and first hand experience .
2. I assume that in your example it would be a dangerous fall . So therefore I would believe , from looking down , that a terrible result could occur . I do not see such a danger in eternity . I do not see a god judging me . I do not see a hell .
I do see that there IS NO GOD who is all good AND all powerful . Hence all the suffering by babies and animal and everyone else on earth .
I do see that I try to be a very good person . One who would not be punished by a fair or merciful god .
Dumb addition !
Why would you want to put a gun to your head UNLESS you wanted to shoot yourself . In that case trusting the person who tells you it is loaded will get you what you want . Trusting the other person will just make you have to go and reload .
You need a course in LOGIC ! ! !
Try playing "Devil's Advocate" and answer your own illogical questions before you waste time posting . You aren't trying to find answers just preach your religion anyway . Try to answer your own questions and you may open your mind and find logic . That way you won't have to depend on your Bible and Pastor .

I say any god does not exist because I've seen absolutely ZERO objective, verifiable, irrefutable proof of ANY gods' existence. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
Because I don't believe in your particular god -- one out of THOUSANDS of people's particular gods over the existence of humanity, I might add -- I don't believe in your particular god's form of punishment for not believing. To accept that I'm damning myself to eternal punishment would be to accept that your particular god exists, which I will not do without the aforementioned objective, verifiable, irrefutable proof. That would be pretty stupid, wouldn't it? You should look up the phrase "begging the question", it'll help you the next time you try to make a logical argument.
Oh, and your analogy sucks. I know gravity exists because when I hold something in my hand and then release the hold, it falls to the ground! I can repeat this 100 times, and 100 times the same thing will happen. Anybody standing on this planet can repeat this experiment, and get the same results. That's called the scientific method. Further studies of astronomy reinforce the theory of gravity, for anybody willing to take the time to learn. By your very example, the fact that I'm HANGING from a rope would indicate that there's a force pulling me downward....which is generally a pretty good evidence of a gravitational force at work. I think you're attempting a very convoluted and poorly-done paraphrasing of Pascal's Wager, which is still stupid, no matter how many times people try and bring it up.
Here's a question for you: why don't you worship Odin, or Zeus, or any of the other ancient gods that no longer have followers? Do you seriously think that any of their followers believed any less sincerely than you believe in your god?

So by your logic if I were a trustworthy fellow and I were to tell you that there was a invisible dragon living in my garage that only I could see, then you'd believe me?
What if I sweetened the deal by telling you that the dragon would burn you alive if you didn't present him with a tribute of a porterhouse steak. Would you bring the steak just in case? Or would you think I was a complete nutjob?
And then what if all my friends told you the same thing and they'd bring offerings of steak to the great invisible dragon. All but one who's house happened to burn down that evening and everybody said it was the dragon that caused this because the guy didn't believe. Would you follow the dragon then or would you demand proof that this dragon existed?
You're telling us the dragon is real and we're just asking for proof of that.

I thank god I have the mind of a child. In this debate that you witnessed did the christian point out that ,human beings are the only animals on earth who industrialize their basic needs. Why doesn't this very fact scare the pants off of some people. Or at lest make people ask questions ?

ummm what?
great analogy... your logic is backwards.
basically what you're saying is that god exists because i can't prove that he doesn't.
This is known as argumentum ad ignorantium, or argument from ignorance. My idea that something is false unless proven true also falls under this category, so who is right? Either the two can be co-existent, or something else must be throw in. That something else is known as the burden of proof. The burden of proof is on you to prove that god exists, not for us to prove he doesn't. The legal system works the same way. I don't have to prove my innocence, you have to prove my guilt.
So prove god's existence and I'll shut the **** up once and for all.

You can't even get the two sides right, so there isn't much I can do to help you sort this out.
You're missing the point. You don't have the two sides of the debate correctly identified. Nothing logical can follow from that.

by me simply hanging i have enough proof of gravity. there is no proof for your god and i have disproved most if not all claims by religious. they just don't accept it.
there's a leprechaun in my backyard and he is telling me that if people don't believe anything i say they are going to be burned and ripped inside out for all of eternity. so if you don't believe me when i say that my tree out front can talk to me you will suffer for eternity.
