I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and I was honorably discharged with an RE-4. Can this be correct? Shouldn't have I been discharged with another code? I have gone through therapy in the past year and I am okay now. I want to re-enlist and join the Coast Guard but I have the RE-4 code and I know it's impossible to re-enlist in any branch. How can I fight this?

yes that is a valid code when used in that manner. an RE4 just means you are not eligible to re enlist. just because you have had a year of therapy does NOT mean you are cured or the problem will not come back if you enter military servicer again,.

besides, the CG takes almost no prior service people period, let alone RE4s.

You cant neccessailry fight the RE 4. It is the correct code. however not all is lost. Usually you can reenter after a waiting period with a waiver. That waiting period is usually two years. I cannot speak specifically for the USCG because I have am ARNG and work with recruiting. The USCG may not take you, but that is an educated guess. Im not educated on every branch, but I have seen RE 4 that have been cleared for duty enlist into the Army branch.

No. RE-3 ability enlistment in time of nationwide emergency (ala international warfare II) lower than strict supervision for grunt artwork is achieveable; Retention after the emergency has subsided is extremely unlikely. progression to a non-commisioned administration position is all yet no longer achieveable. RE-4 ability enlistment isn't achieveable. In neither case is the opportunity of a Commision, now to not indicate a commision as a prevalent practitioner even a obscure probability.

well I got in army national gaurd with an RE-4 code just fine but as far as I know you have to go through the VA to get that re-enlistment code changed. From what I hear it is a process that takes a while. My advice to you is to go and jump on it as soon as you can. Go to your nearest VA administration and get it taken care of. Good luck

Discharge codes can only be changed if you can prove an error or injustice to the board of corrections of naval records. It's a leanghty process that can take anywhere from one to two years.

Fighting an RE-4 ? Very unlikely you will be able to get them to change it, unless "you can prove" a grave error or injustice.

Phycological disorders are generally perminately disqualifing.
Unless your phycologist is willing to put in writing that "your cured" and the chances of this disorder ever re occuring are nil, your wasting your time.

john t is either a couple nuggets short of a happy meal or high.
if you have an re-4 your screwed. period.
the only way you can have the codes changed is if you can prove that you were given that code in error, basically have the navy say "oh yeah, were idiots, we really meant..."
your out, how you got an honorable with a re-4 i will never know. dont even try to call the army they are not taking you.

just keepin it real with ya not trying to insult you.

RE-4, anxiety disorder. This means you
can't handle stress.
I doubt very much if you can re enlist.Would you want your life in the hands of someone who can't handle stress? I sure wouldn't.
Good luck fighting it, but I believe you're wasting your time.
