But it makes me darn sure that my life is better than it used to be!
My beliefs have nothing to do with comparing myself against other people. Heck, I can't even live up to what I should - and the fact that Jesus took my punishment is central in my beliefs. If I don't even live up to my own expectations, why would I think I'm better than anyone else?

Maybe it could just teach you how do deal with the fact that there is always someone better and someone worse .
As in Desiderata we don't want a swelled head from seeing the one or to harbor bitterness due to the latter .
