This is not a religious bashing question...

Ok, so I know that most Christians, among a few other religions believe in the Armageddon...
And that it is going to happen within the next few centuries...
Along with the Second Coming, and the Bowl Judgements

But what if several centuries from now, or milleniums even... what if he doesnt come?
Will you still believe? Will you still have faith in your religions?

Not that it is proof against a GOD, but it just goes to show that Humanity can be wrong at many times in their reign...

I am an Athiest, but I just wondered what your thoughts are on this situation...

I would not dictate that it is coming in "the next few centuries". We place our trust in the prophecy and plan laid out by our God; we believe in the eventual Judgment, and we believe that the timing is perfect.

I would still believe. Even the most 'accurate' of guesses could be wrong, and that doesn't mean my religion is not true.

I hope that answers your question. And as a side note, thank you for the respectful attitude you've shown! You're an admirable example of someone who appreciates other people's opinions.

Well I am a Pagan not an atheist or a Christian though I was atheist once upon a time and changed to paganism. Long unnecessary story.

MANY if the great prophesiers and predictions have dated Dec 21st 2012 as the last day of earth as we know it. Or an Armageddon or end of the world. Depends on who's prediction you are interpreting. Thing is almost all the great known prophesiers have picked this date and did not know when the other predicted it which is the ironic thing, it is not as if they knew of each others predictions other than maybe in Edgar Casey's case but the Mayans, Nostradamus and even the Chinese picked this date as the end of the world.

NOW whether if it is true or not we will all find out come then. I think that this prediction will show nothing more than whether human beings have the ability to foresee the future or not. It's impact on Religion I think will not be so effective, seeing that nearly every eon thought it was their end of the century that was the end of the world so it will go on as long as humanity is here i suppose in one form or another.

It may convert more people to agnostic, atheist, or pagan but overall I think it will only effect their faith in prophesiers!!

Thats just my opinion.

With many prophecy's already fulfilled Christians do believe the events you describe are near. Like the other guy said (almost) if I were to be alive at such a late date, with no prophecy being fulfilled, I would probably question my faith.

Happily this is not the case. Prophecy is being fulfilled at an ever increasing rate. Events are happening that were far fetched in the biblical writers time. Even some things in recent times like Russia being an Alli of Iran, which makes the attack on Israel from the north by Magog (or is it Gog) possible. I answered as honestly as I could I hope this helps.

You are correct in saying many Christians believe in the Second coming of Jesus Christ, as it is said in many passages and books of the bible. Now the WAY he will return to take us all to heaven with him is thought of differently between denominations and other such religions.

But we all agree he will come, we are not privy to the information as of when. No matter if its tomorrow, ten years, ten thousand or ten hundred thousand. He will and is going to return, no matter what we will see him someday if we choose to live for Him through our earthly life. This life is just the beginning.

If you are truly interested i urge you to read the book of Revelations, it is the last book of the bible and will explain the second coming, this might help you understand why Christians don't really worry about the WHEN, we care about the WHAT we are going to DO till we get to heaven.

Even though you are Atheist, since you are curious you should satisfy your curiosity (most good scientists and reporters want both sides of the story). There will never be a better source.

I hope you read Revelations, it is an excellent study, and just might let you see things in a different light.

hope this helped a bit.
many blessings to you.

First off, I am an Agnostic. I think the whole religion thing has left open the 'second coming' indefinitely. We've been on the verge of that return since Jesus died. I don't know if there's a right or wrong answer to whether there's a God, but I suppose if it has lasted this long, it could last another several millennia if the second coming doesn't come anytime soon.

Its easy for people with faith. Not one man alive today knows when the end times will happen. We are just told to be prepared for when it begins.
That time is only known by God and God alone. There are certain things man has created to tell when its going to come to an end but they are either already past OR have yet to transpire.

Personally, I say that regardless of anyone says or thinks the end will always be closer that it was yesterday. :) Get right and there is no worry to be had. No sense of loss for anything on this planet. All things are not on mans schedule. God's schedule is the one that matters.

People have been predicting the end for thousands of years. I'm afraid this doomsday predicting has underminded the whole point of a spiritual existence. People should live the way they live because of the positive repercussions..., not because of a threat of destruction. Whether it happens tomorrow or a million years from now, shouldn't be the basis for whether or not an individual believes in God or not.

Armageddon will be personally experienced by all ... either in the final and definitive biblical cataclysm, or in a personal way, by everyone who will ever live.

The definitive battle between good and evil, with the eternal destiny of souls hanging in the balance, happens every minute of every hour of every day.

It is at the moment our personal earthly existence is complete, that Jesus Christ alone decides for which side we were truly fighting, and whether we won or lost.

There's your Armageddon.

not possible the earth is old and God has to recreate it for it to survive
resources are running out and we won't survive that long
it may not be when we expect it to be
but it will happen
yes, I will still love God and keep the faith no matter what
I always thought I would be here for that
I have looked forward to that day
but if I go by the way of the grave I will be happy in that also
my faith never fails no matter what
I am grounded on a solid rock his name is Christ Jesus
