There is really not a substitute spice for cloves. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice are usually used in conjunction with cloves. If you don't have the cloves just put in the other spices.

Allspice is good, nutmeg, cinnamon. Depends on what you are making. Pumpkin Pie Spice also has cloves in it.

You could try any of the "warming" spices: Allspice, Pumpkin Pie spice, 5 spice powder, Cardamon, dry Ginger, Cinamon, Nutmeg, Mace (outside part of the Nutmeg.) etc.
As the prior poster says it all depends on what you are making.
If it is for baking I would say more Nutmeg or Mace.
If it is for cooking then the Cardamon (exspensive!), or the dry Giner would be better.

Try cinnamon sticks and corriander seeds with a little lime juice and red onions, they are really good and gives more flavour

i am actually allergic to thyme and cloves...and if a recipe calls for them...i usually leave them out...people say there isn't much difference...
