For both revolution. Revolution is very universal, it helps in prevention of heartworm, fleas, ticks, mites, parasites..etc. You get it threw your vet.
To get rid of fleas its a long process that doesn't take a week or a few days. It actually takes about 3-4 months. This is b/c one flea after feeding off your dog can lay eggs that give birth to 40-50 fleas. In 60 days one flea can be responsible for 20 000 fleas...thats just one flea! Also if you have more then one pet in teh house all of them need to be treated.

The only thing (and I mean ONLY even better than Advantage etc.) that has worked for me is combination Program pills and Capstar pills (note that both are taken internally, I believe that contributes to the success of this method). The Program is given orally once a month and it inhibits growth of flea eggs so that they cannot develop and die. The Capstar is only given a few times when the outbreak first begins and merely kills adult fleas.
Also, wash your dog(s) frequently with Ivory dish soap! It kills the fleas just as effectively and even more so than other products and does not contain ANY pesticides (obviously) which are very dangerous to both humans and animals.
The monthly Program pills will prevent any further outbreaks.

Home remedies: to get them out of your house, if you sprinkle salt on your carpet, and furniture and leave it for at least 3 hours this will kill eggs, and adult fleas, also put some salt in your vacuum after you've cleaned your floors and couches, this will kill any fleas from hatching, vacuum daily, very good, until it is under control. Then wash your animals with Dawn, blue liquid dish soap, original, leave on lathered really well for 10 min. this will kill all fleas on the animals, rinse very well, you will notice your animal scratching this is because the dawn will dry their skin, however after a few days the oils will build back up and the scratching will go away, don't confuse an itch with fleas after a dawn wash :). Put your animal in the bathroom, sprinkle the salt, leave the salt 3 hours, in the meantime, bathe your animal, and keep it in the bathroom until you've vacuumed so they don't jump back on it. After you have cleaned your house, you can let the animal out. I love Front-line, works great on my Labs, and Bordie Collie, I also use front line spray for my ferrets, and cat. You can also put a flea collar in your vacuum bag or filter.

Instead of reaching for an expensive chemical treatment such as K-9 Advantix and Frontline, I recommend you try a holistic solution such as garlic powder. For medium to large breeds, sprinkle half a teaspoon of garlic POWDER (*not* salt) on their kibble and mix it in. Repeat this every night, and theoretically the fleas should stay away because they loathe the taste of garlic.
Be sure not to put more than half a teaspoon for larger dogs, since garlic can be toxic in high amounts. Also be sure to ration less for smaller dogs, only including enough to where the dog will be able to taste it.
