I want to get help for myself. I am off of work tomorrow and want to call this therapy center my doctor referred me to months ago but I never called.

I am nervous about this and nervous about what people will think of me. I almost prefer to suffer and be "strong" then to admit defeat in a sense and have everyone worrying about me.

If I do this I know a lot of my issues will probably be made known to my family (cutting, drug use, etc) I don't wanna deal with that, but if I don't do something they will just know anyway.

Things have been "better" lately, I know that underneath things aren't really alright but at least I can feign being in a good mood lately and I'm not pulling my hair out with anxiety and other thoughts. It would be easy for me to blow this off, and I know I probably will.

Please some advice, I know a couple of you have been following my questions.

I just feel alone in all this anymore, the friends I turned to now all seem fake and uncaring, maybe its just me, idk...

ok well as hard as this is for you, you must get help. it is okay to admit defeat once in a while, and your family will be supportive of you getting help. we all struggle, sometimes we make wrong decisions, but there are always people to help you get back on your feet, if you cant talk to the person ur doc recommended, try a guidance councelor, or maybe a church official. Good Luck- and remember to stay healthy.

Go to the clinic. Yes, you will feel nervous and uncomfortable but you can deal with that, they are just feelings.

I felt very nervous going into a psychiatrists office for the first time. I had worked as a RN on psychiatric units for 20 years and felt like a huge failure that I had gotten Depressed. I had become physically disabled and my marriage had gotten bad because of that.

I had to tell my family that I was depressed and I had to tell my x-coworkers that were nurses on the psych unit, that I was depressed with thoughts of suicide. Over time the embarrassment went away.

It's not just you. When you have serious problems, that's when you find out who your real friends are. Also, most lay people are very ignorant about psychiatric problems and just don't know what to do. Many people are afraid of psych problems and would rather just avoid the issue.

My brother has been very supportive of me since I've been depressed but that has been by talking on the phone to me often. I can't talk about my depression with him because - he just doesn't get it.

I hope something I have written has helped. You can contact me anytime you want to, to talk about something.

You can only get help when you want it and are willing to work for it. Rehab is a waste of money, the real help is in the Narcotic Anonymous meetings where people there deal with depression and many other issues there as well. You can look up meetings on line and it's free! When your friends and family know, as scary as that sounds you will need them to show you their disappointments in you that way you know you have to work harder not only for yourself but to be able to make them proud again.

Do it go get the help. Do it for yourself not anyone else and do it for your peace of mind. Addictions cannot be solved overnight so just keep trying. You deserve to be better, not
having to pretend you are in a good mood. But to actually
be in a good mood. Be your own best friend for now
and take care of YOU.

therapy is CONFIDENTIAL. it is completely up to you what is disclosed to your family. getting help though requires complete and total honesty with your therapist. if you hold back (s)he can not help you.

call and go and disclose EVERYTHING. then maybe you can put together a plan of recovery and reclaim (or claim) you!

god luck!
