The legislators get money, in-kind assistance, and other benefits from this cozy relationship.

if they want congress to pass a law that benefits a certain industry, or if they want congress NOT to pass a certain law that will hurt a certain industry, these lobbyists are the ones who run to Washington D.C. and meet with the congress people. They usually try to make deals, bribe them, bring in hookers , drugs, wine, booze, whatever it takes to get the job done.

I'll tell you what lobbyists don't do; they never call or visit Ron Paul. They know Ron Paul will never vote for anything he doesn't believe in, and they know Ron Paul cannot be bought at any price.
