A bunch of prudes settled our countries and their faiths say affection and being comfortable with your body is naughty.
Some of us have gotten over those notions and are not so uptight that a diamond could come out of our butt at any time.

Yeah, we're pretty awful here. I think the problem is, you give someone an inch, they take a mile. Know what I mean, we let a little in, and then we kept pushing the envelope and it just got worse and worse. It also comes from out puritan values. The hand holding thing. ****, we aren't suppose to hold hands with the opposite sex let alone, gasp, the same sex. Yeah, I saw guys during the Olympics almost have a heart attack over the Russian guys kissing each other. It wasn't ******* sexual guys, that's how they express friendship over there. Sad. But you know, sexual being is relative too. I find things sexy that others don't even look at. I don't think the most sexual thing two people can do is have sex. Know what I mean.

This is a very good question and I wonder about this myself. I think HOLLYWOOD has a lot to do with this. The west was once a much more modest society and more religious. As we have become more secular, sex is shoved down our throats so that everthing is looked at in a sexual manner. It's pretty sad. I am from the U.S. but when I lived in Mexico, it was refreshing to see guy friends hug each other and show a lot of physical affection without the fear of being called gay.

I think society is changing in more ways than that. Gone are the days when it was expected that people control their impulses & conform to the way society expected them to behave. Now it seems that we are becoming more accepting of our "animal" instincts - ie we are, as a society, more selfish, more aggressive, more open sexually etc, and unfortunately, are not so concerned about how our behaviour impacts on others. Freedom to be who we are is a great thing, but freedom for yourself also means allowing the freedom of others - so not opressing or victimising others while you satisfy your own primal urges.
It's an unfortunate thing.

I agree with this statement. The worst thing is, now schools are banning girls or boys from hugging each other in schools. This whole anti-affection culture we live in is separating us from each other, and the rest of the world.

Thats just the way it is here. If you want to hold hands with your buddies, you can...........but people will assume you are gay......but thats ok.
Most TV and advertising bombards us with sexual images. Thats probably why we look at everything in sexual terms.
Dump your TV.
