1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

self explanatory to me, those who say they know or love Jesus but keep only the commandments they chose to are indeed liars and are deceived by satan or deceive their ownselves because the truth of God is not in them..

1 John 2:1-6 (New International Version)

1 John 2
1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for[a] the sins of the whole world.

3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But if anyone obeys his word, God's love[b] is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

It is commanding all believers to be as Christ was-witnessing in love, & comapssion.

If you are born again ,you do keep the commandments of God.God knew we couldn't uphold the law, that is why Christ died for us.And when He died for us we were forgiven from the law that condems us.If you sin ,as a child of God ,as you surely will, you must repent as He says and learn from that mistake, continue to grow in HIS GRACE and LOVE.Look at the world around you,do you believe all them that say they know Christ but live in constant sin are obeying Gods commands??Mathew 24:46 Blessed is that slave(believer)whom his Master(CHRIST),when He comes, finds you working...........Working at what?? becoming more Christ like daily....This is what i believe when John was writing this.I am open to dicussion if i am in error!!

There are a lot of false minsters, and teachers out there under the guiles of knowing God, but all the time; leading people down the wrong path, to sin and destruction, with their lies. Teaching a false gospel, not obeying the commandments of God, saying Jesus nailed them to the cross. Jesus gave us faith and grace. Jesus said, "If you want to enter the kingdom of God, obey God's commandments.

It means to obey the Ten Commandments, of course!

Do you? Do you follow BOTH sets of Ten Commandments? There is the one in Exodus 20, the one that most think of. But do you obey the set found in Exodus 34, the one that the Bible says contained the words of the first set of tablets? I've taken the liberty of listing them below.

The Second Tables of Stone (Ex. 34)
(“the words that were on the first”)
1. Thou shalt worship no other god (For the Lord is a jealous god).
2. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.
3. The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep in the month when the ear is on the corn.
4. All the first-born are mine.
5. Six days shalt thou work, but on the seventh thou shalt rest.
6. Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, even of the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.
7. Thou shalt not cover the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread.
8. The fat of my feast shall not remain all night until the morning.
9. The first of the first fruits of thy ground thou shalt bring unto the house of the Lord thy God.
10. Thou shalt not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.

Is it not referring to those who get to know Jesus but do not live in accordance to the teaching of Jesus ?
Does this not tie in nicely with Hebrews 10:26 ?

The 'truth' is Christ. Without the indwelling Holy Spirit (Christ) you cannot begin to obey the commandments. If you do not have the indwelling Holy Spirit you are not a Christian (Romans 8:9).

4The one who says, "(J)I have come to (K)know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a (L)liar, and (M)the truth is not in him;

If you say you have Jesus in your life but do not live your life according to his teachings and commandments then you are living a lie. You don't really have Him in your life if you are not living a life in accordance with his commandments. You are a fraud.

If we claim to be Christians but we do not keep his commandments (love God with heart, soul, mind and strength; love neighbor as self) then we lie.

It represents most Christians today, a bunch of phonies.

I am Christian, and I see people talking the talk but not walking the walk, you know?
