I have 2 German Shepherds that are pretty well trained. I personally believe that you can do the training yourself with a bit of advice.
One of the first commands that you need to teach your puppy is COME. I like to sit on the floor with the puppy and just cuddle and hug the puppy. This will help the puppy to bond with you and want to be around you. Whenever I get up and call the puppy, I tell it to COME. Always praise the dog for a job well done.
The next thing to teach the puppy is the SIT command. I usually use a dog biscuit to get the puppy to sit. Hold the dog biscuit in your fist (so that the dog can smell the biscuit, but not eat the biscuit). I usually put the biscuit above their heads and this will force their butts to the ground. Tell the puppy SIT at the same time you are offering it a biscuit. When it SITS, praise the puppy. To reenforce this behavior, make the puppy sit evertime that you feed it. This will help with the dominance issue and the dog will see you as the master. My dogs automatically sit when they see their food bowls go down. ( the nice thing is you don't have a dog jumping up on you and possibly hurting you).
You need to touch the puppy ALL OVER IT'S BODY. This way the puppy learns that touch is not a bad thing and another thing to do is to give the dog a body hug. I hug my dogs all over and especilly their middle and around their heads. They think that this is wonderful. It also helps to establish trust. Also by body hugging, if the dog gets hurt and needs to be picked up, it is less likely to feel threatened.
I also go so far as with the touching to gently pull on my dogs ears and tails and mess with their feet, the inside of their ears, and get them to roll over and accept petting on their bellies.
I teach my dogs the command OUT. This is when I want them to get OUT of the house, get out of the car, get out of a particular area. It comes in handy.
Another thing that is useful is the command LOAD UP. My male is 103 lbs and It would kill my back to have to lift him into the vehicle. All we have to do is to open a tail gate or a car door and say LOAD UP and they get right in the vehicle.
I teah my dogs the command STAY. When they are small and try to come into the door, I push them away with my foot. I put my foot right up under their chin and push them back while repeating the command STAY.
Please, please make sure to socialize your puppy to all sorts of sights ans sounds and people, it will make them a much better adjusted dog in the long run and more enjoyable to be around.
I hope this is of some help.

You need to get a book on training or sign up for obedience classes with your dog, no one can tell you 1, 2, 3 magic rules - it takes time and patience to train a dog well.

Sign up at Petco when they schedule group obedience lessons and go with your dog, or ask your vet for a reference to a good trainer who gives group lessons.
