In a person with Crohn's Disease, I would guess that a dark stool indicates a bleed as a result of ulceration and inflammation in the upper part of the GI tract (stomach, esophogus, etc.). Crohn's can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the anus up to the mouth,so there may be areas of inflammation and ulceration in the stomach, duodenum, or anywhere along the digstive tract.
A CBC, ESR, and/or CRP blood test can help evaluate whether active inflammation is present in 90% of patients, but an upper GI series or colonoscopy would be required to fully assess the location and extent of the inflammation. If a colonoscopy is not an option, a barium enema and/or small-bowel follow through is another option, but a colonoscopy is the gold standard for Crohn's evaluation.

dark black tarry (like roof tar) bowel movements usually mean blood. but change in the color of your bowel movements can also be affected by different medications and foods. if they have crohn's disease then they need to see their gastroenterologist and have a check up

Could be a sign of blood in the stool or anemia. I think I'd see the doctor about it.

dark brown just means the person has been eating too much beef, if however, it looks like tar, black and sticky....then seeing a doctor asap is a very good idea.

tarry black means blood in the stool that has originated high up in the intestinal tract. if that is what it is, seeing a doctor is mandatory.
