He said it's an acceptable method because the earth will naturally consume the sauce, with local friendly animals providing assistance. I said that it is not something someone does at another person's home and that the small stain of tomato sauce was not an asset to the yard. What do YOU think?

I like his thought process on this EXCEPT he should pour it on his own piece of earth, not yours unless you have consented ahead of time. That was rude of him.

I think it is acceptable. It may not be pleasant but it should be acceptable. I think over something like that if we lose our cool it can show that we are pretensious or uptight. It's tomato sauce. It's the ground. People for centuries have raked out left overs, or bad food outside their house to keep their garbage from stinking or their homes clean. It's not a big deal. Give him some grace.

I agree with you, don't invite him back! Your home, your choice. Too late now. Possibly he does this at home, but what a pathetic excuse for an apology.
Acceptable is what's acceptable to both parties after discussion, not a term to be used by one as an excuse for their own unilateral action. Did you really invite him over to be a critic and a slob?

l certainly agree with you.l think it was a bit thoughtless of your friend.lf you were to leave it it would dry into a gluggy mess sticking to the grass.l guess some people just do not really think about what they are doing at the time. You had a right to say something.l would have as well.

Well, it just left sitting there the acid in the tomatoes might kill that small patch of grass, so use the hose and dilute it, unless you get a lot of rain where you live.

He shouldn't have done that at your home without your permission, but I know a lot of people who put old food outside, especially in gardens and such. I would ask him not to do it anymore if it upsetting to you.

He sounds funny. =]
I don't think that's acceptable because I'd have ants or flies all around my yard. Why would you do that at someone's home?
do it to him! no, I'm kidding but that's just weird!

I would say that it is acceptable. There is no permanent damage. May be ecstatically it was not a good idea but really there is no permanent harm done.
