I always got mine at Wal-Mart. Their shoes are tailored for working people. All the nurses I knew got theirs there, and they were perfect for waitressing. I tried sneakers when I worked in the kitchen, but I'd go through a pair of New Balance in 2 months. Even if you hate Wal-Mart, they have very durable working-people shoes.

I used to be a nurse and wore basketball shoes. It was before running and aerobic shoes came out and they were more comfortable than nurses shoes.
Now (not nursing any longer) I have feet problems and the only shoes I like are Sketchers. They have the best arch support of any shoes I ever had, and keep their side support longer.

I am a cook and I alternate between Dansko clogs and SAS clogs. If I had to choose one to wear all the time it would be the Danskos. I personally hate the Birkenstock kitchen clogs.
