The Ten Commandments doesn't prohibit killing. It prohibits murder.
Allow me to explain the Hebrew word that is translated "kill." It is the word "ratsach," (Pronounced raw-tsakh') and is Strong's Reference # 7523. It is a primitive root; properly, to dash in pieces, i.e. kill (a human being), especially to murder.
It does not include killing in battle, capital punishment, or for food.
To inflict capital punishment is the Hebrew word "muwth," (Pronounced mooth) and is Strong's Reference # 4191. It is also a primitive root: to die (literally or figuratively); causatively, to kill.
In battle, the Hebrew is often "harag," (Pronounced haw-rag') and is Strong's Reference # 2026. It is also a primitive root, meaning "to smite with deadly intent."
Another similar word is "shachat," (Pronounced shaw-khat') and is Strong's Reference # 7819. It is another primitive root, meaning "to slaughter (in sacrifice or massacre)."
These differ from the commandment against "murder."

I am one of the "weak & feeble minded" vegetarians spoken about in a previous post.
Being an atheist, I don't have any opinion on whether or not the commandments condone the killing of animals. In history, it has been necessary for humans to do so for survival. The reason I became a vegetarian is not that I have an innate problem with the idea of eating animals, but because of the treatment of these animals due to modern farming practices. If animals led a normal, free life, and were killed only for food when the food was necessary, then I would possibly eat meat myself (possibly not too), but I refuse on principle to eat the diseased corpses of animals kept in wholly unnatural conditions, being fed medications, and food that their bodies are not designed to ever eat, under artificial lighting, kept in tiny, dirty cages under severe stress for the duration of their unnaturally shortened lives.
None of these factors convinces me that eating the bodies of these poor creatures is either healthy for my own body, or healthy for my mind. Anyone with a conscience must find this to be objectionable. Animals do experience emotion and physical suffering - it's necessary for survival of the species. For humans to condone the mistreatment of animals for nothing more than their own profit & enjoyment of the "taste" gives me many serious misgivings regarding the mentality of humanity. Forget the commandments - we are creatures with a conscience & empathy. God help us if we find it so easy to put these things aside for such trivial reasons!

The way animals are treated in this society it is a sin to condone in any way or form to the continuation of that cruel cycle. It doesn't matter what religion you are or if you believe in sin. We simply should not want that kind of treatment to another creature.
"The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men."
Leonardo da Vinci, artist and scientist
"To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being."
Mahatma Gandhi, statesman and philosopher

Only applies to humans. Prior to the 10 commandments, God instructed humans that it was OK to eat animals...and after the 10 commandments, he handed down all sorts of rules for respecting the animals we kill for food (e.g., don't boil a baby in it's mother's milk, rules for humane killing of animals).
I think people that torture and kill animals for fun or those that kill animals using inhumane methods for food, are breaking one of God's laws...but not the seventh commandment. The commandments related exclusively to our relationship with God and with other people.

You need better questions than that.
In the Bible, it says to not eat meat with blood still in it.
A fly is not a animal.
The Bible did not say anything about not killing an animal. I believe that you only kill an animal if you are going to eat it. Meaning that was your only way from starving.
The Ten Commandments; where it says "You shall not murder", refers to killing other people. (NIV)

1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. <<<< MEAT WAS CREATED BEFORE ADAM TO SPECIFICALLY BE EATING BY ADAM AND HIS OFFSPRING.
DEUT. 12:15, MEAT is a BLESSING from Yahweh. TOO Bad so many want to go with that FALSE GOSPEL OF HEALTH which Ellen White says must be linked to the word, proving that it is a DIFFERENT GOSPEL and NOT part of the word of Yahweh.
Rejecting BLESSINGS from Yahweh is dangerous business. That is why so many vegetarians are weak and feeble minded.

Jesus said this: Love God with all of your heart and love everyone. If you have obeyed these 2 you have obeyed all the commandments. He did not say anything about animals for food...........When Jesus gave communion at the Last Supper He said This cup is God's New Covenant sealed with my blood which is poured out for you.How is this important you say?It means No one can obey all 10 commandments. And Jesus also said if you break one of the 10 you have broken all of them. But there is a NEW COVENANT SEALED BY JESUS HE NAILED THE OLD LAWS TO THE CROSS>IF WE LIVED BY THE OLD LAWS WE WOULD BE COMPLETELY IMMOBILIZED>JESUS SAID IF YOU LIVE BY THE LAW YOU DIE BY THE LAW.

Thou shall not do murder. That is the commandment. God have us teeth to eat meat with. He gave us animals to hunt for that meat. Man has been eating meat for hundreds of thousands of years. Eat your steak, just don't kill your neighbor.

I eat everything I kill. The bible says anyone that tells you not to eat meat is not of God.
This commandment is talking about people killing people, I haven't killed any people. You should read the bible.
