Well defense money is not just spent on Iraq, or any one place....and I heard just recently that we need more of those large planes that cost billions of dollars...so some of that is for more weapons and planes we may need in the future.

Our defense and our military was so down graded during the Clinton administration, that it is dangerous for us...we need to be prepared to defend ourselves, if that necessity should ever arise...and the world is not a friendly place right now.

Many countries don't mind taking our money, but would turn on us in a minute! We are foolish if we don't build up our military when we see China, North Korea, and others doing so.

Consider this one point--in 1945 it cost $170.00 to equip one infantry Soldier.

Today it costs over $17,000.00.

In addition, all the things that Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines use, get broken or lost from time to time.

How much does one M1A2 Abrams MBT cost? How about just one M1151 Up-Armored HMMWV?

And you have to have parts to keep them running.

And fuel. You think filling up your car is expensive? Fill up a C-130 sometime.

Troops gotta eat.

Be sheltered.

Get paid.

In addition, we're also helping to equip and train the Iraqi and Afghan Armies and Police Forces.

Build schools.

Build hospitals.

Dig wells.

Pave roads.

Repair bridges.

Install communications networks.

In order to save money in the long run, a decision has been made to bring most of our forward deployed forces in Europe and Korea back to the states, so new barracks, motor pools and chow halls on the existing posts here have to be built.

Have you not thought about any of this?

Whats up kid, you got some downtime after being deployed to Iraq already, to ask more questions on Y/A, are things so slack on the war front that you have to ask how much cash will be spent next year??

the contracts are inflationary on over-expensive hardware contracts.try to figure that in the state of california, our current governor inherited a mess of contracts for energy such as the corp that the vice president used to work for.well, our current governor tore up the contracts and re-wrote them at reasonable prices.
