I've met many people who claim to be very, VERY, religious god-fearing people.
However, at the same time, these people consciously do 'bad things'-- acts that are considered sinful and immoral. They then go on to state how appalled they are by agnostic or atheist people.
On the other hand, these terrible nonbelievers generally seem to be kind, considerate, moral people, who are seen as supporters of the devil.
I find this ironic. Agree?

I'm not saying this is always the case, but I've witnessed it a lot.

The title may be misleading.
But it's a pretty general question, a general theory... so a general title would be fitting as well. :]

Yes, atheists are misconstrued, misunderstood and often feared by those who are also "god-fearing". Living in fear is a dreadful way to be. I, personally, feel sorry for many of them ... and disgusted by many as well.

Well, I think I speak for all Atheists when I say we by definition don't believe in the devil as much as we don't believe in any other god, good or evil.

As an Atheist, when I do good it is out of a genuine desire to do good, never due to fear of supernatural punishment or want of eternal reward. Maybe it's because we're just more genuine in that way that it stands out more.

I know plenty of Christians and Atheists and I hate to think that there is some basic personality flaw in the Christians, so it must be something like a motivational difference.

All in all your observation seems correct to me, but we can only make guesses about why.

once you have a great team of selections and you're attempting to %. the remarkable one, in any undertaking, then the 1st element you opt for to concentration on is despite the fact that if quite a number of of the techniques are unique in some way, or the main severe in some way; the techniques that stick out from the gang. contained in terms of systems of theory, atheism is unique in that it does not make an allure to faith as a source of conviction. Atheism has the severe of 0 gods to believe in, 0 supernatural forces to believe in. Atheism is unique among religions in that it's not a faith. the well known phenomenon of atheism isn't a series of ideals plenty as this is a prescription for awareness the international - this is only a end of utilizing reason and scientific approach to the international, and it is what atheists tend to be attempting to cajole others to do - prepare reason to the international. If somebody tries, and nevertheless reaches the tip that a god or gods exist, often an atheist would be prepared to assist attempt to confirm the place the guy went incorrect. this is not evangelizing, or proselytizing, plenty as is only is coaching, that's only one greater reason atheism is the stand-out decision among systems of theory.

To' I eat raw meat'? while atheists are bound only by the law of the land, (Usually that is enough), we are not tempted to go around, robbing and killing people., however' loosely bound' we are by ethics, and our own sense of logic and, although I hate to use the word, morals.
We do not do these things, not because we could do them, and possibly ;get away with it', or because we are co-errced by threats of doom, and punishment, but because we don't choose to do it.
Whereas, why are so many vicious crimes, comittted by christians?
i hate it when people accuse us of things we don't do.

Now, as for your question? I agree, and 'I eat raw meat' is a prime example of those 'good people who are appalled' by atheists behavior.
Shudder!!!!!!!!!

Reasoned morality is better than morality dictated from a pulpit.

I have been known to be rude, but I reserve it for Y! Answers, and not daily life. I live and let live. Tolerance and a secular government are important, regardless of one's personal beliefs.

I disagree. Please read the comments in this R&S section made by Atheist's. Look back at more than just today's Q&A and see who degrades who to the greater extent. It's not uncommon to hear phrases like: Your iminaginery god, the Bible is full of lies, Christians are less intelegent than others. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Really-Do yourself and your opinion justice and review the Q&A on this form and see if you still feel as you presently do.

Yes, this happens all the time. But the fact of the matter is we are not saved by our good or bad deeds. We are saved by the gift of salvation and our choice to believe. Hopefully if we truly believe that Jesus loved us so much to die for us, then we should want to do good. Unfortunately this is not the case for many people which makes me wonder what they believe in the first place.

Their hypocrisy is more apparent b/c they have all these 'rules' to go by. When some 'sin', they do it bigtime. Atheists aren't hypocrites as much b/c they don't hold themselves up to an unrealistic idea. Xians set themselves up.

i LOVE generalities. nothing shocks like a generality.

but your right, certain brands of theists seem to think their faith makes them better than others. meanwhile, their scripture is full of messages about being humble.

that's why i choose gods that let me be arrogant. that way, i don't get burned. hehe
