I did. I was over 40 years old. I'm still not as good as I'd like to be, but I haven't given up yet either. After about 11 months of lessons people thought I was great and I was only playing very simple pieces.

I guess in my case I needed to mature a bit more. I really didn't listen to classical guitar in high school and hadn't developed an appreciation for it until college. I was into mostly progressive rock, fusion and jazz. Later I started with simple pieces like Greensleeves, Classical Gas, Romanza; Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring.

I'm still a terrible sight reader but as another poster mentioned I haven't given up. I still get excited when the piece starts to take shape and starts to sound like something.
